FYI
The River's Edge is temporarily closed for maintenance for 4-5 weeks.
Closing the facility allows the City to work with contractors to address the facility issues and get The River’s Edge back into operation as quickly as possible.
This summer’s high humidity created challenges for the facility’s two ice rinks. Davenport Parks and Recreation staff noted issues with moisture buildup beginning in mid-July and took proactive steps, including additional cleaning, moisture and temperature logging, and air quality testing.
While moisture problems are not uncommon for a sports facility housing two indoor ice rinks, this summer’s conditions exacerbated the issues and led to the discovery of mold in two of the locker rooms. The type of mold identified is a common environmental mold and is not considered toxic mold.
The current session of the Learn to Skate program will be cancelled, and full refunds will be issued. Youth hockey leagues have been notified that they will be unable to utilize the facility during the closure.
Parks and Recreation customer service is now located at the Fairmount Community Center (2980 N. Fairmount St.) Updates on the work and reopening date will be shared here and on davenportiowa.com/parks.
