It was a great day at the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo! Once again, I teamed up with Riverside Adventure to help get new paddlers out on the water and connect with current and future outdoor community members. I met so many amazing people. Shout out to Alana over at SPG for making it all happen, she’s seriously the GOAT and I was thrilled to meet her, as well.
Swipe to the last side for a quick 27 second tour of the expo! Lots of good food, great atmosphere, cool gear shops, art, and small businesses. If you couldn’t make it this year, give SPG a follow and keep an eye out for next year!
Dave (David Decoteau) and John Gee led a great safety presentation and talked a bit about paddling techniques. A good amount of participants had never been on the water, let alone in a kayak before. I spoke to a woman post-paddle that had expressed her fear of water bodies, but she decided to trust us and push herself out of her comfort zone. She left with a desire to get back out on the water, and will be headed over to RAC’s kayak rental kiosk to get some more practice - all in hopes of going further in future! THIS IS WHAT IT’S ABOUT, FOLKS!
Those of us that have been doing outdoor s**t most of our lives sometimes forget how many people have never experienced the outdoors in that way. What seems like a no-brainer to us has been learned through miles on the water and on trail, through trail and error. So many people have yet to test the boundaries of their own physical and mental capabilities in a wilderness setting. Likewise, it’s really freakin special to be a part of and witness people falling in love with paddling, hiking, backpacking, etc.
Stay tuned for more info on further RAC offerings! We’re cookin’ up something! 🛶⛺️🥾🤘🏽
