Landmine Leadership- Where you have been developed by years of others doing the job on "what not to do". So much of the fire service is mentored this way. Landmine Leadership is self limiting. You probably won't end up in trouble but you also will not learn what you and your people are capable of.

So strap the target on your back, be a bit vulneralbe and blaze a new trail, you might even find new Landmines.

Officers, What you tolerate is what you teach. Set standards, set expectations and hold your people to them. You are not their buddy, you’re their boss. You are responsible. Responsible to your citizens, responsible to your city and responsible to your employees and their families. Step up or Step Aside.

Do not forget the WORK part of TeamWORK when building teams. Much like dry steering a car won't help it turn, it is forward momentum that allows for one to navigate the roadways. Teams have to work. Work is the essential part of the equation. Bosses that allow crews to slack off, thinking they will be liked are diminishing the value of WORK in building their teams. TEAMS+WORK=TEAMWORK.
