Next Friday, May 15th, 2026, the UPMA Connecticut Chapter will be hosting a training day at our state convention. The location is the Sheraton Hartford South at 100 Capital Blvd in Rocky Hill CT. Food is provided. The training day will be from 7:30 until 4:30 and is free to any Connecticut postal employees who wish to attend. This is a district approved training day. Exempt EAS get 4 hours of training and 4 hours of personal time to attend and will not have to use leave. Non-exempt EAS will have 4 hours training and will have to use 4 hours of leave to attend. Please ensure to submit a 3971 to your direct manager and notate as applicable. UPMA membership is not required to attend the training day. UPMA members or those who wish to join are welcome to attend our evening banquet. We just need to know if you'll be staying for the banquet and your meal choice. Message me for information.

There will be a variety of training topics that focus on many aspects including your personal well being. Please respond below or message me if you will be attending the training day. We hope to see a large turnout for a great event. Food is provided

Statement from UPMA president Tony Leonard

If you were not already aware, NAPS recently released a public statement in reference to the USPS recently recognizing UPMA as the representative for non-supervisory and non-managerial EAS employees. I felt deeply disrespected by their statement and have chosen to respond to NAPS National President Ivan Butts by sending him the attached letter.

My name is Douglas Wachtel, and I am proud to run for Atlantic Area Vice President for UPMA. I am running to serve as a strong, steady advocate for our members and our organization as a whole.

Advocacy has defined my life. As the father of five children adopted through the foster care system—and having helped many others along the way—I have spent years standing up for those who needed a voice. Navigating complex systems, challenging decisions, and fighting for what was in the best interest of children taught me persistence, compassion, and accountability. Those same qualities are essential in leadership, and I am ready to bring them to UPMA.

I believe our organization is strongest when communication is open and collaboration is encouraged. Our local chapters hold tremendous knowledge, experience, and practical solutions. By fostering stronger communication across chapters, we can share those resources more effectively and ensure every member benefits from the collective strength of our organization.

My postal career has prepared me for this responsibility. I have served as Postmaster in both Level 18 and Level 20 offices and as a Support Specialist with Headquarters. These roles have given me a broad understanding of postal operations at both the field and national levels. I understand the challenges our members face and the systems in which we operate.

If elected, I will work diligently to advocate for our members, strengthen communication, and help unify our Atlantic Area chapters. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote.

Today we are officially introducing the UPMA App. This is a new tool created to make it easier for our members to stay connected, informed, and supported in one place. Instead of searching through emails, texts, or multiple platforms, the UPMA app will serve as our central hub for updates, resources, and key information.

Why we built it

We built this app to improve communication and access. It helps members stay current with what is happening across UPMA and gives everyone a consistent place to find important content when they need it.

What members can do in the app right now

Members will be able to:
1. Contact local rep
2. Access UPMA news, the Leader, and updates
3. View events and calendar information
4. Quickly tap into key resources and announcements

How to get it

The app is available on Apple App Store and Google Play. Just search UPMA and you will find it.

What we need from members

Once members download it, we encourage everyone to:
1. Log in and explore the app with the same username and password that you use for the UPMA website. If you have never created an account before, see instructions below
2. Bookmark it as your go to place for UPMA updates
3. Share any feedback so we can keep improving it

Creating a User Account for the First Time

Before logging onto the app or website for the first time, you will first need to register and create an account to unlock all of the features. This will require entering your first and last name and entering only one of the following 3 things. Either your UPMA member ID, your EIN, or your CSA number. Your UPMA member ID number is located on your mailing label of the Leader magazine. Then click submit and you will be sent an email to create a username and password and you’re ready to login.

This is a major step forward for UPMA communication. We are excited to roll this out and build on it together.
