A friend of mine recently asked me to help catch up several years of taxes and it made me really start to think. I know I’ve put mine off in the past because after the tax season, I just don’t want to do one more return, not even my own.
A lot of small business owners don’t put off their taxes because they don’t care.
They put them off because it’s mentally exhausting.
It’s not the math (well for some people, it most definitely is the math😁) but mostly, it’s the constant low-grade stress gathering all of the info and not knowing what to do with it.
They know how to do the thing that makes them money very well but that other side of the business is super taxing (pun intended). Determining what you made, how much you spent, and pulling it all together in time for Unc’s big day in April (or October for those of us who are excellent procrastinators)
That’s why I created the Small Business Tax Organizer.
It’s a simple Excel workbook for Schedule C filers that lays out income, expenses, and mileage the way the IRS actually looks at them. I included some common examples so you don’t have to overthink every category or second-guess yourself.
It’s not bookkeeping (more like record keeping).
It’s not tax prep (but it will help).
It’s a way to reduce friction and mental load so this stops being the thing you avoid (like I have in the past).
