SUNSET DANCE FAMILY ! Heres what some of our teams have been up to this summer !

Our Dance and Drill teams have been working hard this summer, and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments so far!!

Congratulations to our Bisonettes, Bison Belles, and Dance Company Leadership Team & Council for representing our School, Dance Department, and our community so well this week !!!

Our varsity and JV drill teams attended the 4-day DISD Precision Camp, where they earned numerous ribbons and awards for outstanding achievements in Technique, Precision, Performance, and many more! Their commitment to growth and teamwork was incredible throughout the week!💜🩷🤍

The Sunset Dance Company Leadership Team and Council attended the ADTS Officer Camp, where they also brought home a collection of awards and ribbons for their hardwork ! Their leadership, hardwork, and passion for dance will continue to set a high standards for the company this season !! 💜💚🩵

We are so proud of all of our dancers for their hard work, passion, and dedication to excellence! This is just the beginning of an amazing season ahead for them all !!💜

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW BISONETTE, AND BISON BELLES DIRECTOR!

Lizette Rivera is a DFW-based bilingual artist who works as an educator, dancer, choreographer, model, actress, and photographer. Having started dancing later in life and finding it challenging at first to fit in, Lizette is deeply passionate about supporting young dancers who are unsure of where to begin by providing them with a range of resources to aid their learning journey.

Her dance career began at Sunset High School, under the Direction of Mrs. Huggins, where she was a two-year member of the Bisonettes, serving as Social Officer her first year and Senior Lieutenant her Senior year, and also a two-year member of the Sunset Dance Company. While at Sunset, she was highly involved in the Academy of Finance, served as a Freshman Mentor, and was a member of the Student Council, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Club, and the Junior State of America Club.

Lizette is proficient in a variety of drill team styles as well as Hip-hop, Ballet, Salsa, and Modern dance. She has taught master classes and served as a guest choreographer throughout DFW. In addition to choreographing and volunteering at multiple Dallas ISD campuses, she interned with the Texas Dance Educators Association in 2022 and worked for Express Cheer in the summer of 2025.

She attended Trinity Valley Community College, and Texas Woman’s University where she earned an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and a Bachelors Degree in Dance with a Psychology minor . She was awarded dance scholarships and served as an internationally recognized Cardette and member of the TWU Pioneer Pride Dance Team.

She continued her professional career as a Texas Lonestar from 2023 to the present, where she currently serves as Head Captain.

This year, she completed her first year of teaching at Robert T. Hill Middle School, shifting the dance program in a positive direction in only one year.

Mrs. Huggins and Mrs. Armstrong are excited that Liz will be stepping into the role of drill team director. The Sunset community is thrilled to welcome another Bison Alumni back to the herd!

It is the end of an era!

This is the final year at Sunset for Mrs. Huggins and Mrs. Armstrong.

After 16 years Mrs. Huggins will be looking for a new career that allows more time for her family. Growing the Sunset Dance Department has been a lifelong dream and passion. She is happy to see this dream fulfilled!

After 3 years at Sunset Mrs. Armstrong will embark on a new journey in Mabank, where she and her family live, as a ELAR teacher for 6th grade.

Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Huggins will thoroughly miss the teams, dance students, and Sunset community.

Mr. Rocha, the new Department head, and a new hire will lead the program together creating opportunities, rigorous dancing, and continuing the excellence of Sunset Dance. 💜💜
