Gemini competed in Quantico Yacht Club's "Master of the Potomac" regatta this weekend. We finished first place in non-spinnaker. At the start of the race, there was about 3 - 5 kts of wind, with an outgoing current. At the start, we had Gemini pointed in the opposite direction of the start line, directly into the current, and there was just enough wind to hold us in place. At a minute before the start, we gybed the boat and basically drifted across the line. We spent all day chasing faint wind lines to try and maintain our 3kts SoG. By midday, the wind died completely, we were 100 yards within our competition, and we both set our anchors. When the wind finally returned, at about 3 kts, we continued on our way. We finally rounded the first mark at 8 pm, and by this time, the tide had changed and we were once again facing directly into the current. At sometime after 10, the Race Officer decided to call the race early and finish in place. A great job to the crew and competitors in this year's event.
