Jackman Walking Documenting an adventurous cross country hike by my newly rescued sheltered dog JD and I in support

I am setting out on a cross country hike from Southern California to North Carolina with a newly rescued dog in support for the over 4 million dogs that sit in animal shelters nationwide. Rescuing a pet from a shelter is the best option when looking for a new pet companion. We will post entries and pictures of our adventure and the people we meet along the way.

More than five and a half years together, many an adventure we've shared and he has always been a trusted and treasured companion. During a recent health care scare of my own he looked after my wife and daughter, giving comfort and keeping some sort of normalcy in their life's while I was away. Was always around for pet's and hugs as needed never withdrawing to himself in sadness. Stayed alert and close when they walked him instead of me, controlling his usual wandering and goofiness. Every time I leave home without my wife and I always tell him "Take care of momma and look out for your brother and sisters (our two cats and our daughter) He as usual, rose to the occasion and did as instructed. Thank you JD for just being you and one of of the best decisions I ever made rescuing you!

Been just over 5 years since Dwayne saved JD and I from impending doom. Thank you brother!

We staggered down from the Eagle Mountain, which seems like just a series of giant bolders stacked on top of each other, dehydrated and half out of my mind and came across Dwayne who was camping in his beautiful trailer. It seemed as he was put there by God to save our butts. This offered and I all the water we could drink, a nice shady place to rest and great conversation. Once rested and hydrated, he sent us off with apple and orange slices as well as two gallons of water! I am by his kindness. He also gave me a walking stick he made himself from a cactus stem!

Both a little heavier, steps not as quick and light but we're still enjoying our walks.
