A closer connection to the Dayak.
We have aligned with a Dayak tribe to create a new type of destination fishing that prioritizes cultural integrity. In contrast, many operations suppress or appropriate local communities to provide familiar comforts, ie, Asado for every visitor, hamburgers for dinner. We aim to highlight the Dayak way of life, food, and traditions. These organic interactions often become the most memorable takeaways for our guests.
Our clients often share their admiration for the tribe:
“Seeing them move through the jungle was amazing.”
“These people are so strong.”
“These guys know the river best.”
Whether it is the way they navigate to camp, the fish they spot before you, or the ways they use natural building materials, you will experience the remarkable strength of the Dayak.
A tribe famously known for its head-hunting history and deep connection to the jungle and rivers, the Dayak have often been negatively impacted by modern society. Despite this, they have maintained cultural practices and beliefs central to daily life while pursuing Kaloi. Our program’s fundamental structure promotes the Dayak community by ensuring we eat with them, interact with them, and fish with them every day.
We apply their vast knowledge of the jungle to the art of fly fishing, creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Westfeather acts as a consultant for tourism; we do not own or suppress. Instead, we empower the community and provide the tools they need to make decisions for their own lands.
