The best lopers are incredibly consistent.
Same feel. Same cues. Same routine.

Horses thrive on consistency — and trainers depend on it.

“Feel” is one of the hardest things to teach in the cutting horse industry… because it only truly develops through experience.

Here are 3 ways to improve your feel on a cutting horse:

1️⃣ TIME IN THE SADDLE There’s no shortcut. The more horses you ride, the more situations you experience, and the sharper your feel becomes. Good horsemen are built through repetition.

2️⃣ CONNECT FEEL TO RESULTS Start paying attention to how the horse felt before a great work or show… and compare it to the outcome. Was he soft? Confident? Fresh? Relaxed?Learning to recognize those details helps you recreate success consistently.

3️⃣ APPLY
Learning to apply cues correctly helps develop the exact feel needed for success.

Great feel isn’t magic. It’s time, observation, timing, and learning from every horse you swing a leg over.

One of the most valuable skills a loper can develop is FEEL.

Feeling when a horse is tired.
Feeling soreness early.
Feeling anxiety, tension, freshness, or confidence.

Good horsemen listen before the horse ever says something loudly.

The cutting horse industry can be rewarding beyond words… but it’s not easy.
Long days. Cold mornings. Late nights. Pressure. Responsibility.

If you want to make it long-term in this business, you need more than talent.
You need grit, consistency, and passion for the horses.

The people who last in this industry genuinely love it — because some days, love is the only thing carrying you through.

Know your trainer well… you’re a good loper when you know his mood based on the music he is playing in the arena!! 😂😂😂😂😂

The best part about the loping job is definitely the horses!!!

But don’t be fooled… there is way more to loping than just hanging out with these amazing creatures.

Taking care of them and a barn in a professional competition scenario is not easy and takes a lot of time, energy, physical endurance, mental stability and responsibility!!!

Follow as I get Juliette ready.

She is extremely anxious and acts up in the big circle so trotting smaller circles gets her wormed up while maintaining her calm and concentrated right before she shows!!!

Trying to lope her in the big circle gets her hot and agitated instead of wormed up and focus .

Sometimes you gotta adept to your horses needs in the loping pen.

Lopers get hired everyday. It's the lasting and growing part that is challenging.
Knowledge and confidence go hand in hand and can take you far in this world!
