Reminder that the library is closed today, so no chess! Same thing for next Monday since it's a holiday. I was hoping to have a chess field trip to Milligan Park since the library is closed today, but it looks like it's going to rain. If the weather is clear enough this evening, an impromptu meet up may be held there if anyone would like to join us for some Gazebo chess. Otherwise, maybe we'll try again next week. I'll keep you apprised!

Mock rated tournament next month! June 27th at the Crawfordsville Library in Meeting Room D. Round 1 starts at 10:30am, so get there ASAP (the library opens at 10). We've had a couple of these now for the regular members of the club, but we're starting to see some good growth so I wanted to make a post in case anyone else has an interest in seeing what competitive Chess is all about. This is just a mock tournament, so no entry fee or sign up required. We will be following the same rules as a typical USCF rated event (with more leniency). I will go over the rules before the first round, so if you're interested, just show up the day of, and we will find someone for you to play! If at all possible, please bring a board set with pieces and a clock. We have quite a few, but bring em if you have em just to be safe.

We'll be doing 4 rounds of 25+5 time control with the following (approximate) round times:

Round 1: 10:30am
Round 2: 11:30am
LUNCH BREAK until 1:30pm
Round 3: 1:30pm
Round 4: 2:30pm

I expect the event to wrap up between 3:45 and 430pm. If for whatever reason you can play some rounds, but not all, feel free to let me know onsite that day or you can message me here. If anyone has any other questions you can reach out here or email me at [email protected]

The Library is closed today due to the weather, so no Chess tonight. If anyone feels like playing rated this week, there's the rapid night tomorrow in Indy, and there is a tournament in Bloomington this Saturday. See you next week hopefully!

Starting next week (December 1st) until March of next year, the library will have shortened hours so we will be wrapping up around 7:15. Our new scheduled meeting time will be 5:45-7:15. Same room: meeting room D.

With the shortened time allotment, and also the nature of our regular players, I have also decided to relabel our weekly meetings as Casual rather than Rated. So all are welcome! Whether you have just a passing interest in Chess or like competition-we have a range of skill levels that regularly show up for games each week! No USCF membership required.

We didn't end up getting through paperwork fast enough to start our weekly games in September, but see our previous post for the official announcement of games starting on October 6th!

The 2 games may not seem like much, but a free place to get USCF tournament experience / try to raise your rating is invaluable.

For those new to Chess, this would be a great way to dip your toes in the water before paying big money to go to a bigger event.
