Tear down, strip old flock, reflock, and carefully stitch back together. A true, time intensive, material intensive, labor of love. A lot of folks won’t touch these old saddles. I’ll do a few. They take a lot of careful, skilled attention to not tear old leather and get them back together so that they are balanced and seams line up. Hopefully this saddle will see another decade of use.

I took a red eye flight from PDX to Charlotte and hopped over to Augusta, GA, arriving on Sunday, September 14th. I had a wonderful day exploring Aiken, SC including Hopeland Gardens and the Thoroughbred Museum. On Monday morning I started my training with Custom Saddlery (including Aviar, Envy, and C3) covering saddle construction, de flocking, flocking, billet replacement, dropping the front and rear panels and restitching them, operating the tree press, taking measurements, and many other important skills and tasks. I also was fortunate to spend time with the local Aiken fitter and rep, Melodie, who was a joy to learn from and work with during my week. Of course, I had a wonderful time and learned so much but would have loved to stay longer. Demo saddles and tools/supplies will be shipping mid-October!! Back home, I’ve been so fortunate to learn from long time skilled fitter and saddle guru, Stacy Berger, who has spent several weekends mentoring me at barns here in the PNW. Give me a call if you’d like me to come out and check your saddle or take the incoming demos for a test ride!!
