🐟 FISH CARE STARTS BEFORE THE FIRST CATCH

Every angler and captain is responsible for keeping their fish healthy throughout the tournament day. A properly operated livewell gives each fish the best chance of surviving after weigh-in.

Before tournament day:

✅ Clean the livewell and remove any debris
✅ Test the pumps, aerators and recirculation system
✅ Know how every livewell setting operates
✅ Carry a spare pump or another emergency aeration option
✅ Keep ice and a thermometer available

While fishing:

🎣 Fill the livewell early with clean water
🎣 Run the aerator and recirculation system continuously when fish are present
🎣 Divide fish between livewells when possible to reduce crowding
🎣 In hot weather, cool the water gradually, but never more than 10°F below the lake temperature
🎣 Avoid pumping hot afternoon surface water into a cooled livewell
🎣 Check your fish and water temperature regularly
🎣 Handle each fish as little as possible and protect its slime coat
🎣 Use non-puncturing culling clips

THSBA has 25 weigh-in bags available at one time. Do not use your own bag. Limiting the number of bags allows us to control the flow of teams through the weigh-in process.

Your catch will do better the longer it remains in the livewell instead of sitting in a weigh-in bag. Once you receive a bag, move through the weigh-in and picture process quickly. Get your bass into the release tank as soon as possible.

When water temperatures rise above 75°F, oxygen and temperature control become especially important. Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends continuous recirculation and advises that properly used oxygen-injection systems can provide additional protection in hot weather or with heavy limits.

Healthy fish protect our lakes, our tournaments and the future of bass fishing. Remember, THSBA penalties are assessed for dead fish, but proper fish care is about much more than avoiding a penalty.

🎣 CAN YOU FISH OUTSIDE YOUR HOME DIVISION?

Yes! THSBA anglers may fish as many tournaments across the state as they would like.

When fishing outside your home division:

✅ Your team is eligible for all scholarships and prizes offered at the tournament.

✅ You may fish with a different partner than you normally fish with in your home division.

❌ The tournament will not count toward your home division Angler of the Year standings.

⚠️ Important Team Rule: You cannot pair an angler from the tournament’s home division with an out-of-division angler. Both anglers on the team must be registered outside the division hosting the tournament.

Fish more lakes, compete against new teams, and take advantage of more opportunities across Texas!
