Been there. Funny how my most successful athletes (read, the ones that improve the most) are the ones that upload consistently. I guess their diligent habits impact all of their training/life.

One of the biggest issues facing coaches is getting their athletes to upload their data on a regular basis. Try these 8 tips from TrainingPeaks Education Manager Dave Schell to get your athletes in the habit of uploading on a daily basis.

3 Juniors (ok 2 juniors and one 18 year old) I coach got the full experience at the 2016 Tour of Corsicana. Here they are warming up for opening TT together. Davis Dombrowski has become more disciplined in his TT training, pacing and position and it showed as he finished 2nd in the TT with a 31mph average! Being off junior gears sure helps when going that fast! The week prior we fit his TT bike, worked on holding the correct position, found the correct gearing and wheel selection so he could perform his best. His RBM team defended his position the best they could and he came away with 5th place in GC after a windy road race. Evan Bausbacher and Jake Ingram both learned how to race for the team and what it takes to be in a P/1/2 field.

about #9, Well I wouldn't say races are "won" on the couch HA! but if you slept as hard as you trained, you would be a lot faster.

Notice how there is no mention of "you're training is holding you back"/"you're not training hard enough". The training is easy, it's tangible and has instant feedback and gratification. The hard part is adjusting your mental attitude and abilities. It takes time and is the unseen force behind your racing. If you want to reach your long term goals, focus on long term growth.

1. Winning is all that matters. No one gives a s**t how hard you train, how talented you are, or how good you look on a bike. The numbers on the results sheet are the only ones that count. 2. Fear is debilitating. Get over it. 3. You have no friends in the peloton when …

I couldn't agree more. I was brought up in cycling much like this guy. There are many new riders that are clearly good athletes, maybe follow their coaches training plan (cross your fingers) and are super strong. They are strong enough where "why should they listen to you?"

I try to help as many new riders as possible, whether I coach them or not and yes, sometimes that's yelling so you're sure to hear me! :) I have spent years riding and hearing it from and learning from more experienced riders. These more experienced riders also happened to be older than me. Yeah I could drop them, yeah I could rip their legs off, maybe it had to do with the age gap but I listened to and respected them.

Who knows who is right and who is wrong but I know this:
the riders that listen and learn go a lot farther in the sport.
