The Witherspoon Landing and the unofficial Conway Riverwalk Landing are put on the same page because they are close together.

The Billy Witherspoon landing was originally called Savannah Bluff Landing and is managed by South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. It was changed to Billy Witherspoon to honor Representative Billy Witherspoon. This landing has 2 hard surfaced launch lanes. The parking lot is large and can hold 18 vehicles. It also has a dock to tie up to.

Pitch landing has a medium size gravel parking area. It has 2 hard surfaced launching lanes with a ramp to tie up to.

The map is showing the 4 trails that paddle around Pitch Landing, all combined together. Details about these paddles will shown in posts below.

The landing is about 97 miles from the dam according to the Waccamaw River Blue Trail and is on the west side of the river.

The Conway Riverwalk Landing is not an official landing, but it does have a soft area to takeout/put in a kayak. There are plenty of spaces to park in the area. The Riverwalk is a beautiful area to walk around and enjoy the area. Lots of picnic tables are scatter all around the Riverwalk to eat a meal. There is also a wonderful restaurant on the Riverwalk. There is also a nice picnic area on the other side of the marina, where you can have a cookout.

This post shows multiple trails that show how you can casually kayak around downtown Conway SC. You may notice a lot of the pictures has very smooth glassy water. That is because the trail was done very early in the morning before the wind kicks up. Doing these trails early in the morning make the paddle very serene.

The other trail just goes north to enjoy downtown Conway SC and the extensions of the Waccamaw River in the area, then goes up Kingston Lake past Rattler's Pond. On the way back a quick stop is done at the railroad bridge that goes across the Waccamaw River. This trail is only 11 miles and was paddled in 3 hours.

Another trail goes across from the Riverwalk, it is a great fishing trail. Especially early in the morning. It had lots of fish startled me, banging against my kayak, right after I startled them.This trail was about 3 miles and took about an hour to paddle.

The extension that goes along the roadways may have a nice look to them, but they can be noisy. There is was a gator sighting in the small loopy extension.

There is a fun little swampy like trail marked on the map. When the water is not low, the kayaker can go further than the trail shows.

The extension that appears to go into Lake Busbee is blocked off.

There is a great restaurant at the Conway Riverwalk where you can stop and eat during the paddle or after the paddle. Or there is another area marked on the trail where a group can rest and have a nice cookout.

The river walk starts by the restaurant and goes up past the marina. As of June 2024, they were expanding the Riverwalk up towards Kingston Lake.

The last 2 maps before the pictures are of trails when Blade Kayaking did a river Clean Sweep Up of Kingston Lake. There were 2 trips in the same day done. They can still be used as a casual paddle around Conway. The trails start at the Conway Marina, thanks to Waccamaw Outfitters for supporting the Clean Sweep.

A Kingston Lake trail that went all the way up to Crabtree Swamp has been add at the end of the images.

This kayak trail only goes up the Waccamaw River towards Lees Landing during a calm early morning paddle. The best part was going into what some people call the Tie Cross Lake, which has a large wooden cross at the entrance. When you get on the other side of the lake, there is a small little trail the meanders around the trees. The water was low when this trail was paddled, so when the water is average or higher, the kayaker will be able to go deeper into the woods. The were a lot of wildlife around the lake also.

Another interesting attraction was the hull of an old boat, that appears to have been grounded and left there.

More trails going further up the Waccamaw River towards Lees Landing will be added soon.

This trail shows it as if it starts from Lee's Landing, but it is actually part of a bigger trail. The previous post shows a trail going partway upwards to Lee's Landing. But I wanted to show the mileage all the way to Lee's Landing, so that anyone who wanted to go upriver to Lee's Landing would know how far it is.

Even though this start at Lee's Landing, you can use this trail to navigate from Billy Witherspoon Landing.

The next map shows the trail starting at Reaves Ferry Landing to Billy Witherspoon Landing and is 21.4 miles long. This trail is used by people who are trying to eventually kayak the whole Waccamaw River.

One trip goes south down to Cox Ferry Landing where you can stop and enjoy the Cox Ferry Recreation Area and then go back up to the Conway Riverwalk. The trail goes past Pitch Landing. There is a trail on the Cox Ferry Landing page that shows a trail that goes up the extension across from Pitch Landing. There has been a gator sighting in that extension. This trail is only 6 miles and paddled in 2 1/2 hours.

Another trip only goes to Pitch Landing via Wadus Lake and another extension. This trail is also around 6 miles.

The 3rd trail goes to J Todd Landing, but this trail can be used to do a loop to J Todd and back. Which would be about 10 miles.

The 4th trail goes all the way down to Peachtree Landing.

The 5th trail goes all the way down to Enterprise Landing. It is showing 3 maps, with 2 of them zoomed in to see the trail better. You can see that this paddle slightly bypasses J Todd Landing and Peachtree Landing.
