CCU Rugby Update:
We have only a few games left this fall! Our last home game and senior game will be this weekend 10/23 at our home field. We have been posting more on our Instagram this semester, so check for updates about games and times there!

CCU spring season update:
USA Rugby has canceled Collegiate Spring Championships for the 2020 season. CGRU placed a 30 day ban on matches as of Friday March 13th. CCU and UNCC were set to play to advance to regionals. However after these announcements CCU and UNCC are discussing options to play in April for the CGRU D2 women’s champion.
We will provide updates as they come. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Lady chants went head to head with College of Charleston today. First half was a back and forth battle to control the ball. CCU’s fullback Greer Rickett got the first try of the day on a breakaway around the 22. Inside center Autumn Roach made the conversion. C of C answered back late in the first half, running one in. But that would be the only one CCU gave them the rest of the game.
Second half CCU came out strong and ready to win. Rickett scored 2 more trys, Roach converted one. Lock Katie Connors ran one in. Prop Sara Benzer fought one in. Followed by a dot down into the try zone from wing Fionnagh Krenzer. To finish out the game flanker Adrienne Higgins scored her first try ever. Final score 34-5. CCU came to play today! They worked very well as a team in support and were able to come away with a well deserved win!
They take on App State next weekend at home. Come out and support your lady Chants!!

Today was a cold soggy day on the rugby pitch. UNCC traveled to CCU for a sloppy day of rugby.
First half started out with CCU dominating possession and then prop, Sara Benzer scored in the first 15 minutes. The conversion was just short. After a UNCC player injured her knee the game was suspended for 15 minutes due to lack of medical staff. Thankfully there was a spectator who was an EMT and the game was restarted. Unfortunately everyone had cooled down and getting warmed back up proved to be a difficult task.
The second half showed a huge shift in momentum for both teams. UNCC came out showing they were here to play. They scored one within the first 10 minutes. CCU couldn’t get their game together long enough to make anything happen. Turnovers plagued them all second half as well as poor tackling and defense. UNCC scored 3 times in the second half, converting 2 out of 3 tries. Final score 5-19.
Next week lady Chants travel to UNCG for their next matrix match.
