It seems like it’s getting worse every year.
More people on social media it seems are just fine with obliterating high school coaches on any issue that may arise during a season. And sometimes it’s just a constant barrage all season long.
Warranted or unwarranted.
There are so many posts painting one sided pictures of a coach that someone doesn’t like or doesn’t agree with that garner hundreds of comments and shares with people just throwing gas on someone a lot of the time they don’t even know.
Coaches make mistakes, they lose games, they say things they wish they could take back in the heat of the moment.
Sometimes they have a plan that they believe will work…and it just doesn’t work out.
Last time we checked… that is life… that is everyone…regardless of their job.
There’s no one harder on coaches after a tough loss or a tough season than themselves.
Before you put that post up, think about how you would like someone blasting you on a mistake at work, and then 73 people you don’t know adding in a comment about how horrible you are.
Then your spouse, parents, kids, friends, co-workers, and anyone else on social media see’s it and forms an opinion without even knowing the full scope of the situation.
Coaching is a public job. We get it. But if the people putting up the negative posts aren’t going to do the job, and if there aren’t coaches to do the job because they get out of the profession because it seems like there is incredible negativity towards people in that profession…then who’s going to do the job?
There were more open coaching jobs this spring than in any time in recent memory.
Coaches Corner was founded on promoting positivity without bias.
It’s still what we believe.
