Iron Spade Cycles

Iron Spade Cycles A place to create moving art I am an artist with metal, plastic, rubber and fuel. My creations can be enjoyed both in motion and standing still.

Is there a rule that all artwork has to remain lifeless and hanging on the wall? I enjoy the inner workings of Japanese and European brands alike.

Restored a 100cc McCulloch MC93 kart engine originally built in the late 70's. This little motor makes about 12-15hp and sounds awesome screaming at 10000 rpm.

I picked up a couple of 34 year old Enduro tanks for my vintage KTM 350 EXC the other day. Both need some work to be right but they are like diamonds in a bag of coal. These things are so rare, sometimes you just have to drive 100 miles for the opportunity to keep them out of the trash. Let the plastic tank restoration begin...

These carburetor parts are all cleaned and ready to be reassembled. I just love to finish the v***r blasting process allows. It's clean and a satin finish that could be polished quiet easily. ***rblasting

I'm really pleased, and consider myself quite lucky to have accumulated so many specialty tools over the years. While some were purchased outright, and some were salvaged and restored, many of my tools were created here in my workshop over the years. One tool in particular that has brought me much joy using it to restore 40 and 50 year old motorcycle parts is my shop built wet media blasting cabinet, also know in the industry as a v***r honing cabinet. The process of wet sand blasting can remove many years of corrosion and staining and leave a surface that looks as good as the day it was created. It is especially nice on aluminum, copper and brass parts but works almost as well on steel and other hard metals. I've even been able to clean and restore some harder plastics. These carburetor bodies were almost to the condition of something that might be sent to the scrap yard just a few days ago. After a 24hr bath in a carburetor chemical tank, they were cleaned in the sonic cleaner for 2 hours to shake loose the last bits of gunk and then processed in the v***r cabinet for the final step. Once all of the bodies have been processed I can begin reassembling with the new jetting and gaskets. Just one of the services I offer here at my shop.

Reaching out to my over 55 age group of friends who were involved in motorcycle racing back in the late 70s, you know who you are... This is stamped in the modified head of a 1973 Kawasaki Z1. After a conversation with a couple friends yesterday, it was brought to my attention that the now closed A.J. Foyt Kawasaki would have been open when this bike was originally being prepared for club level racing at tracks such as Texas World Speedway and others around Texas. Anyone with pictures, stories and/or general knowledge of these bikes being raced back then, I would greatly appreciate the offer to talk with you in greater detail.
