The CMS Spartan Boys Soccer Team welcomed the New Castle Trojans for a match at the Connersville Soccer Complex for an exciting battle that Connersville won 10-1. NC started off the scoring with an early goal to beat the Spartan backline putting the pressure on early. Connersville helped keep the goalie clean after that with Gabe Gardner making 5 saves on the night.
Garrett Davison scored the opener for CMS with a golazo from outside the eighteen, and Davison had two goals and three assists against the Trojans. That started the goals for the Spartans and they just kept scoring.
Jaxon Meyers scored the second of the night and on the season for him, followed up by Bentley Rowe who had two goals as well. Brock Lykins made his introduction to the scorer's sheet with three goals and an assist. Two of Lykins' goals came from strikes with his non-dominant left foot and the third a gorgeous header from a Davison corner kick. Mason Sterling added a goal and two assists, and Karter Leslie rounded out the scoring with a goal late on. Logan Houghland and Adam Jones also had an assist each.
"It was a great bounce back game after dropping the first game of the season at South Dearborn, and the kids played with joy and energy throughout the match," said coach Richardson. "In both games the kids have displayed what we have asked of them in terms of communication, passing, and physical play."
The Spartans are back in action Monday, August 24th, when they host Greendale Middle School at 6:00PM. The game will be at the Connersville Soccer Complex on Veterans Memorial Drive.
