Fly of the Week 🎣

Last of the Spring Steelhead Series… and we’re finishing strong with the Sucker Spawn!

This time of year, the Redhorse Sucker start making their annual spawning run. When you see them in the system, that’s exactly where you want to be—because the steelhead are usually right behind them, feeding on loose clusters of sucker eggs drifting downstream.

The Sucker Spawn is a deadly pattern for matching that natural bite and can be one of the best flies to have tied on during the spring run. Simple, effective, and a must-have this time of year.

If you’re on the water and seeing suckers move… don’t overlook what’s following them 👀🎣

🎣 Fly of the Week - Ice Minni!

A killer pattern that resembles the emerald shiner—one of the primary baitfish steelhead are keyed in on this time of year. As fish start dropping back down through the system, this fly really shines.

The Ice Minni is a great trailer fly, especially paired behind an egg. It adds that extra flash and movement that can trigger aggressive strikes when fish are trying to bulk up on protein.

Whether you’re fishing higher water or dialing things in as conditions change, this is one you’ll want in your box—it’s a go-to this time of year.

🎣 Fly of the Week: Laser Minnow ⚡️

We’re halfway through our Fly of the Week series, so we figured we’d give you a good one!

The Lazer Minnow ⚡️a great streamer pattern that comes in both bright and natural colors. The more natural tones imitate baitfish, while brighter colors—like chartreuse—stand out in dirty water.

It’s known for triggering aggressive strikes from fresh fish that have entered the systems. A go-to fly and one of the shop’s top producers.

Stop in and we’ll get you set up for the creek this week. 🎣

Water was up this weekend after Thursday’s downpours, making for some tough conditions—but there were still plenty of fish to be found if you put in the work 💪

Those who adjusted and stayed persistent were able to get into fish throughout the tributaries.

With expected rain this week, hopefully the rivers hold up and give anglers a chance to stay on fish.

Stop in and we’ll get you dialed in.

Stay tuned… this week’s Fly of the Week is coming 👀

🎣 Fly of the Week: Black Stonefly 🪰

This week’s pick is the Black Stonefly, a pattern that imitates the real bugs starting to emerge as the water warms on spring days.

It’s a highly effective fly for both steelhead and trout, especially when fish are keyed in on natural insects drifting through the current.

A great pattern to have in your box this time of year.

Stop in the shop and we’ll get you set up for the creek this week. 🎣

Fishing was decent this weekend on the tributaries, and both the pseudo minnow and meat & potatoes were doing their job 👊

We had a couple of pictures sent in from local guides, and it’s clear—when they’re keyed in on bait, these patterns are getting it done.

With a solid stretch of weather ahead, it’s a great time to get back out there.

Stop in and we’ll get you set up.

🎣 Fly of the Week: The Pseudo Minni

The Pseudo Minnow imitates the emerald shiner, a key food source for Lake Erie steelhead.

Fished as a trailer behind an egg, it adds a natural baitfish profile that can trigger aggressive takes—especially in low, clear water when a subtle presentation matters most.

Simple, effective, and a great addition to your setup this time of year.

Stop in the shop and we’ll get you set up for the creek this week. 🎣

This week we’re starting a new “Fly of the Week” series geared towards the Spring Steelhead Season – check back each week to see what patterns are producing on the creek.

First Up…
🎣 Fly of the Week: Meat & Potatoes

A classic steelhead combo that just works.

The potatoes (egg pattern) imitate loose eggs, drifting through the current – something steelhead are always looking for. Add a little “meat” behind it, like a small streamer, and now the fish are seeing something different.

Is it a small minnow stealing an egg? Or an egg with a piece of flesh drifting along?

That little bit of confusion often triggers aggressive takes, especially from fish that have seen a lot of standard egg patterns.

Simple. Effective. Meat & Potatoes for steelhead.

Stop in the shop and we’ll get you hooked up!
