The CHS Knowledge Bowl Team wrapped up their inaugural 2025-2026 season by traveling to Chicago on June 6-7 for the PACE National Scholastic Competition, one of the premier national quiz bowl tournaments. The team placed 3rd in the small schools division, and 70th overall. The team also spent a day site-seeing in downtown Chicago.

We are so proud of the team for making it to Nationals in their first year!

Tonight we hosted our first annual year-end awards banquet. We reminisced about our incredible inaugural year, honored our departing seniors, and gave lots of team awards. But we also got to honor our coaches, especially Faculty Coach Mrs. Healey and head coach Dr. Travis Simpkins . Coach Simpkins is often flying under the radar, so it was really fun to shine the spotlight on him and applaud his inability to take "no" for an answer. Thanks for all you do, Coach!

The CHS Knowledge Bowl team placed #14 out of 39 teams in the Question Authorities Open virtual competition held during the second week of April. (And #6 out of 15 teams in the big school division.) There were teams representing Colorado, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, i.e. the states where the KB-style of quiz bowl is predominantly played.

This was the first time that the team had played in an online trivia competition, which required a combination of deep knowledge, speed, and team work. CHS had 8 players competiting.

CHS answered 112 out of 200 questions correctly, scoring 983 out of a possible 2000 points. (The faster you correctly answered a question, the more points you could received.)

Good job team! Go Lobos!

The CHS Knowledge Bowl team sent two teams to the Department of Energy National Science Bowl Colorado Regional on March 14th at Metro State University in Denver. This was Conifer's first time competing in the pretigous DOE NSB. The morning consisted of pool play with the top 16 out of 26 teams advancing to the afternoon double-elimination playoff bracket.

Playing in the Geothermal division, Team 1 (comprised almost entirely of seniors) had a morning record of 2-2. Meanwhile Team 2 (comprised entirely of freshman) had a 3-2 record playing in the Solar division. These records were good enough for both teams to advance to the afternoon playoffs, putting them in the Top 16 teams in the state.

CHS Team 2 got a tough first round playoff draw, falling to eventual champ (and perennial powerhouse) Fort Collins Fossil Ridge. They then dropped to the 1-loss bracket where they lost a close match to Fort Collins HS.

Meanwhile CHS Team 1 won their first playoff game against Fairview before also falling to Fossil Ridge in the second round. They then dropped to the 1-loss bracket where they lost a close match to fellow JeffCo school Lakewood.

CHS Team 1 was captained by Zac Brennan and led in scoring by Otto Pace while CHS Team 2 was captained by Andrew Simpkins and led in scoring by Grayson Skinner.

We are very proud of both of our teams for making the playoffs and representing CHS!

Thanks to the National Laboratory of the Rockies for putting on a great competition!

In what was undoubtedly the most exciting competitive event of the weekend 😉 Conifer clinched the championship in the Denver Metro 7 Knowledge Bowl League! We also honored Romy Haydon as our Senior MVP. Congrats!

The competition was the Region 6 Finals, where team competition is divided by division and we are seeking berths to the state championship tournament. Conifer came in 8th place overall on the day and 3rd place in the 4A division. We will find out if we earned a wildcard berth to state this week!
