I have a TON of new followers so I thought I should reintroduce myself. My name is Tracy Wheeler and I’m an ISR instructor (Infant Swimming Resource) in Ohio. 🐟What brought me to ISR? My oldest son, now 17, and a senior in high school 😳 began ISR lessons at 9 months old. Watching him independently roll to his back and find air for the first time stopped me in my tracks. It wasn’t luck. 🍀 It was a life saving skill. And it was INCREDIBLE! I remember thinking EVERY child should have this opportunity. That moment changed the direction of my life and I’m forever grateful! ☺️. 💙 My favorite part of teaching? Some may think it’s seeing a child master the swim-float-swim sequence (which is pretty amazing!). But it’s actually watching a child’s confidence grow. ISR teaches something much bigger than swimming and floating: “I can do hard things!” This confidence carries into activities outside the pool too and it’s amazing to hear stories from parents about the kid’s successes! I’ve been blessed to teach almost 500 children over the last 8+ years and it’s one of the greatest joys of my life to watch children (and parents) discover they’re capable of far more than they ever imagined! 🏖️ A little about me outside of the pool: I’ve been married to my husband Jonathan for almost 20 years and we have three AMAZING teenagers, who all took ISR lessons for the first time between 9m-13m, and continued until they were each 5. I still make them show me their float! Every age has brought new adventures and I LOVE 💕 being their mom. My job before training to be an ISR instructor was a Physical Therapist in a skilled nursing facility. I’ve loved helping folks recover from illness or surgery and return home, but my passion has shifted to these little people. This guy turned 1 on Monday and on Wednesday he did this. Practicing their floating skills in winter clothes under the skilled watch of a trained ISR instructor helps prepare these little ones for a potential accidental fall in. If it happens in the future, it won’t be the first time they’ve experienced this feeling of a heavy coat and diaper weighing them down, and they can be confident that they can float and wait for someone to pick them up. Lots of awesomeness happening in the pool this week. Clothing lessons, rockstar swims and floats, smiles, and even some brave kids going down the slide for the first time! This guy is 4, had never taken ISR before, and in less than 5 weeks, he can do this.
