We don’t talk enough about shame.
The shame woven into some of our cultures.
The shame imposed by society.
The shame that tells women they are somehow less because of a choice they made, a circumstance they faced, a dream they pursued, or a path that looked different than what others expected.
The career.
The relationship.
The divorce.
The pregnancy.
The questions.
The dreams.
Many of my fellow Africans will understand exactly what I’m talking about, but this conversation is bigger than culture alone.
It’s about the ways shame has shaped so many of our lives.
How it has silenced our voices.
How it has made us believe there is something wrong with us.
But what if the very experiences you were taught to be ashamed of were part of shaping the person God created you to be?
What if the thing you spent years hiding was actually preparing you for your purpose?
To every woman carrying a story she has been taught to hide: this conversation is for you.
We don’t talk about it enough.
I’m about to.
