We often have people ask about our name, Run Your Marathon. The inspiration came from two medical professionals, Dr.Skinner and Tamara, that we met during Josh’s 117 days in the hospital and rehab.
Dr. Skinner at Methodist sat me down on the third day and said, “Lisa, I know you want to sprint through this, but a TBI is a lifelong marathon journey that Josh will travel. It will be hard and exhausting, full of highs and lows, celebrations and plateaus, laughter and tears, but you keep moving.”
While Josh was an inpatient at RHI, we were allowed to stay with him overnight. One night, I awoke to Tamara talking to Josh. She said, “Josh, do you know that no one else will ever have your brain injury? Our brains are so unique. People may have similar injuries, but this is YOUR injury. What are you going to do with it?”
So, that’s how Run Your Marathon The Josh Speidel Family Foundation name was established. We hope to encourage and support other survivors and their families to keep running their TBI marathons.
