As the 2026 season comes to a close, it's hard to put into words the emotions that come with it. Watching so many of my girls age out of travel ball and seeing others begin the next chapter of their lives in college is bittersweet. It's an emotional time, not just for me, but for all of us at Altitude Hernandez.
To the players and families moving on, thank you. Every conversation I've had with our players and parents has been filled with nothing but respect and appreciation. Thank you for trusting me, believing in our program, and allowing us to be part of your journey. You have left a lasting impact on our team, and you will be missed more than you know. We wish each of you nothing but success in whatever comes next.
With that being said... Altitude Hernandez 18B continues!
Tryouts are this Wednesday, July 15, and I'm excited to meet everyone who comes out. This is an opportunity to become part of a thriving, unwavering organization that truly believes in developing players both on and off the field. I've been incredibly fortunate to coach alongside an amazing group of coaches here at Altitude, and I'm proud of what we've built together.
One question I've been asked quite a bit is, "What do you look for in a player?"
My answer is simple:
• Integrity
• Dedication
• Effort (the most important one)
Effort can be measured, but it can't be taught.
Over the years, our teams have experienced incredible highs and heartbreaking lows. We've won together, we've fallen short together, but through it all we've remained committed to one another.
I've always told my players that when we step onto that field, we compete for the teammates standing beside us. We put in the work all week long so we can enjoy the reward of competing on the weekends.
So if you're wondering what catches my attention at tryouts, it isn't who's the most talented player on the field.
It's heart.
Skills matter, but they're lower on my list than most people might think. I'm looking for players who are coachable, humble, willing to work, and determined to become better every single day. Those are the players who build great teams, and those are the players I want wearing an Altitude Hernandez jersey.
