: So I am sitting at my desk today and a co-worker of mine who has a disability comes over to talk to me. He starts talking to me about a wheelchair football team he used to be on and how he can get me some information to talk to someone about it for the Inclusive Program. After our quick discussion he said to me that he doesn't get to talk to me often about it and doesn't get to say it but he wanted to let me know he was thinking about me and the BIG thing I am doing out in the community for individuals and the inclusive program. Mikes comment to me today truly touched me. I thanked him for his kind words of support as it truly meant a lot to me especially when the thank you is coming from an individual with a disability. As he left my desk I found myself a little teary eyed as I didn't think what I am doing outside of the agency voluntarily was getting noticed.

His words of thanks and encouragement along with those of the Self-Advocates I have gotten to know over the past 3 years through the Self Advocacy Association of NYS, parents of children who have a disability and older individuals with disabilities are what matter most to me. It's because of them I do what I do everyday. It's because of them I put my heart and soul into this program to make it the very best it can be. I will continue to put everything I have into making this program be the success I know it can be.

Today I had the opportunity to watch the most awesome High School basketball game I have ever experienced!! These athletes played their hearts out and the excitement I saw in their faces was absolutely priceless!! It truly filled my heart with joy. Stacey Swearingen Nolan asked me after the game if I was getting teary eyed seeing the program finally happen and the answer to her was YES - tears of hapiness and pride! This is what I have hoped for since day 1 when Dan and I first met with Cohoes High School Administration last year; presenting this awesome program to them through the Special Olympics. It wasnt about winning or losing, who scored the most baskets or which team was the better team. These kids played with so much heart and compassion for each other, cheering each other on every second and most of all having FUN! The excitement from their parents, friends and loved ones from the stands watching them play made the experience even that more heartfelt for me. Words can't describe what I am feeling right now. I am so very proud to have been a part of such a wonderful experience. If you haven't been out to see a game yet PLEASE make the time to cheer these awesome athletes on. They only have I believe 4 games left and it will be one of the most rewarding games you will ever experience. Congrats to the team and Coach G. on the win and playing so awesome. Keep up the great work!!! Thank you Stacey, Morgan Blizinski, Susan Best Monson, Rachel McCrea, Jason Looman, Bill Smith, Dan Hytko and so many others who have supported this happening at the High School all the way.

I am so proud of these student atheletes!!! Keep up the great work!!

We have heard so many parents excited about the opportunity for a program like this happening in our City. It is the first of its kind in the area and its free! We just need children to sign up so we can finally get it off the ground. I hope to see many of those interested parents at today's Unified game. Come and see what this great program as to offer!
For those who don't know what a Unified Basketball game it is very similar to what the All-STAR program offers. Come support the High School team!!!!

Come out tomorrow to Cohoes High school at 4:15pm and cheer on the Inclusive Basketball team as they play their 2nd home game against Taconic Hills!! This is an exciting time for these players, their parents and not only the CHS community but the Cohoes community as a whole. These student athletes have worked hard to get here and they need our support during their season. Let's show them how proud our Cohoes community is of them, their hardwork and accomplishment. Way to go team!!!

I will also be there with flyers and registration forms for parents of students who are or would be interested in the free All-STAR inclusive program (Supporting Talents in Arts and Recreation) through the city of Cohoes. The City of Cohoes All-STAR program gives the opportunity for individuals with and without disabilities to participate in the same art and recreation activities. The City of Cohoes Recreation Department All-STAR program works in partnership with the Cohoes Community Center. Hope to see you all there!!
