Beautiful day for a walk around Cataract Falls! ☀️🌳💦

If you need an excuse to get outside today, this is it. The Lieber State Park beach may be closed, but Cataract Falls is open for business! 🤗

Take a walk, enjoy the waterfalls, breathe some fresh air, and enjoy one of Indiana’s hidden gems.

Planning to visit Cagles Mill Lake this weekend? Before you head out, be sure to check the weather forecast and plan ahead.

One way you can prepare is to have multiple ways of receiving weather forecasts and warnings which can include any of the following:

1. Operational NOAA Weather Radio in a central location
2. Subscribe to have weather alerts delivered to your cell phone: www.weather.gov/subscribe
4. Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your cell phone: https://www.weather.gov/wrn/wea
5.Battery powered AM/FM radio

There is public wifi available at the Lieber SRA gate houses and campstore; Radio and use of Wireless Emergency Alerts are more dependable forms of weather monitoring due to poor cellular signal in the area. Visual monitoring of the weather is also recommended. If camping, locate the nearest building in case you need to seek shelter. If there is time, pull in awnings and tie down loose items during high winds and storm events. Still planning a visit despite the weather? Here's what's going on:

- The Lieber SRA beach and the pool will be open this weekend, weather permitting. The pool is open from 11AM-6PM. The beach is open until dusk.
- The Nature Center will be open from 10AM-6PM. Check out the gardens and Story Walk trail!
- The Campstore will be open. Stop in for some hot coffee and wifi.

Indiana’s Upper & Lower Cataract Falls are ROARING! 😳🌊

After all the recent rain and flooding, the falls are putting on one heck of a show. If you’re passing through the area or have the day off, this is the perfect time to visit.

Take in the roar of the water, feel the mist, enjoy the wildlife, and forget about everything else for a little while. Sometimes nature is the best reset there is. ❤️🇺🇸

Cagles Mill Lake Update — August 17 🌊🎣

Cagles Mill Lake is definitely on the rise after all the rain we’ve had.

The Lieber State Park beach and beach parking lot are slowly disappearing under the rising water.

As of right now:

* Lieber boat ramp & courtesy dock — accessible
* Cataract Lake Marina — accessible and NOT flooded
* Cunot boat ramps & parking lots — accessible
* Cunot courtesy dock — NOT accessible

The main lake water clarity is looking great, while the creek arms are still pretty muddy from all the runoff.

Conditions can change quickly as more water works its way into the lake, so use caution and watch for floating debris.

Yesterday, Doe Creek was rolling into Cagles Mill Lake looking like chocolate milk. Today… almost clear! 😊

She gets one fishing pole tangled, feeling pretty accomplished… then somehow manages to get the very next pole stuck. 🤣

One problem solved, another problem created. That’s fishing! 😂

At least she redeemed herself and caught a fish. 🎣❤️

Cagles Mill Lake Update — August 16 🌊🎣

The lake is still slowly rising, but most areas remain accessible as of today.

✅ Lieber State Park boat ramp — accessible
✅ Lieber boat docks — accessible
✅ Lieber State Park Marina — accessible
✅ Cunot boat ramps — accessible
❌ Cunot courtesy dock — not accessible
✅ Lieber beach — currently still available

With the recent rain and more water working its way into the lake, conditions can change quickly. I’ll continue keeping an eye on the water level and access points.

🌊 CAGLES MILL LAKE UPDATE — AUGUST 15, 2026 🎣

Down at the Cunot boat ramps this morning, the lake is continuing to rise.

The ramps are still accessible, but the courtesy dock is basically unavailable unless you’re willing to wade about knee-deep to get to it. 😬

Right now, the muddy water appears to be staying back in the creek. That could change if water starts being released through the dam, allowing that muddy water to move out and spread through the lake.

With more rain in the forecast and flooding throughout the area, I don’t expect the lake to start dropping anytime soon. Unfortunately, I think we’re going to see it continue to rise. 🌧️🌊

Both the Upper and Lower Cataract Falls are absolutely rolling after all the rain we’ve had. The storms continue moving through, bringing more rain, wind, thunder, and lightning.

With Cagles Mill Lake already on the rise, all this additional water will definitely be something to watch over the next couple of days.

If you’re heading out to see the falls, stay safe and keep an eye on the weather. ⚡️

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area.

If you’re on or around Cagles Mill Lake, get off the water and seek shelter. Strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, and rising water are possible.
