Well, tonight we wrapped up our season with our awards banquet. It was a great way to celebrate the great kids that we have and their accomplishments this year. Our girls results included winning the Buffalo and Clever Invitational as well as the prestigious SBU Invitational, taking 2nd in the tough MLC to Strafford, winning Districts and finishing 12th at State. Our boys results included taking 2nd place at the Clever Invitational and SBU and Districts-which was the first time in 9 years. We had 20 athletes that qualified out of districts to sectionals in 26 events and we had another 16 athletes qualify out of sectionals and on to state in 13 events. At state we had 2 relay teams get all state, our girls 4 by 200(Lex, Brooklyn, KB, and Val) and our boys 4 by 400(Brenton, Matthew, Brayden, and Lucas), and Valerie Cowles ended up as our 4th EVER state champion in high jump and took 3rd in the 300 Hurdles. 9 total school records were broken this year.
But the BEST part about this year and this team was that they were TRULY enjoyable to be around. In a time and age where entitlement sneaks in often with high school kids and teams, this group did not show that. They were selfless, encouraging, empathetic, and kind-all while maintaining an impressive work ethic and competitiveness day in and day out. All of these attributes are going to serve them well in life. These character qualities are what I am MOST proud of when it comes to these young men and women. I see a lot of future WINNERS in life from this group!
We say thank you and goodbye to a coaching stud in Coach Utke-who has left a lasting impact on this program. We are thankful for everything that he and his wife Emily have given to our program. This is a year after we lost another coaching legend in Coach Massey. But with Coach Smith, Coach Morris, Coach Val, Coach G, Coach Lubinski, and welcoming Coach Peaslee on board, this program is in good hands with people that GENUINELY care about these athletes and this sport. So that’s a wrap on 2026 and we look forward to what 2027 will bring!
