WHAT: I am Pedaling for a Purpose, riding from San Diego, Ca. Augustine, Fl., to raise awareness and support for three organizations.
1. Disabled American Veterans – find local chapters to support or donate online at WWW.DAV.org
2. Live Strong at the Y – donations can be made directly at YMCAChattanooga.org
3. North American Mission Board (NAMB) – Has numerous projects at NAMB.net Give fro

m which to choose
PLAN: Our plan is to average 60 miles a day but where we stop is where we will stay each night. We will take every Sunday off to rest, worship, and honor our Lord that gave His life to save us and has given us the strength, health, and courage to make this ride. WHY: FIRST, our family is steeped in generations of military tradition. One son is career Army, serving in Germany. A grandson is in the Army, and a granddaughter served in the Navy. We understand the value of the sacrifice our service members make. This ride is to draw awareness to how important it is that we support our veterans, especially those that come home disabled as a result of their service. They sacrifice for us so I am riding to honor them. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for another. John 15:13 King James 2000 Bible. NEXT: Next: We first learned of Live Strong when another son was going through treatment for the same cancer that Lance Armstrong had. Later, during the spring of 2014 I had my right kidney removed because of cancer. Life goes on and so must we. The Live Strong at the Y Program is about life after cancer. Let’s help our best friends stay fit and in the game. I have always said, “Life is like water skiing, if you slow down, you go down.”
FINALLY: From the beginning, we wanted to support a mission project. Specifically, we have selected the Send North America project that involves missions in 30 cities across the US. Three of these cities lie on our route. One of the San Diego church plant projects plans to reach out to fitness junkies and is staffed by fitness professionals. Phoenix and New Orleans are the other two cities on our route. Actually we will be going through Atlanta too on the drive home at the end of the ride.
