40! That number hits a little different when it’s yours. For me though it hits in a positive way filled with gratitude and opportunity.
I just want to say thank you to every single person who took time out of their day to wish me a happy birthday. The handwritten cards, phone calls, texts, Facebook posts, private messages, and messages across social media. I’ve read them, I’ve felt them, and I appreciate every one of them.
There’s something incredibly humbling about realizing how many people thought about you, even for a moment, and chose to reach out. My heart is full.
As I step into 40, I’m more excited about life than I’ve ever been. I can’t wait to see what the next 40 years bring.
This birthday feels different for me. I’m using it as a marker, a time to really look inward, sharpen my focus, work on myself, and make becoming the best version of me a priority.
Not from a place of dissatisfaction with where I am, but from gratitude for everything I’ve been given and a responsibility to make the most of it.
I want to be better for myself.
Better for my family.
Better for the people I love.
Better for my community and better equipped to pour into the lives of the people God puts in my path.
Life moves fast. The older I get, the more I understand just how valuable our time is, how important our relationships are, and how blessed we are to have people beside us to experience all of this with.
I’ve lived a lot of life in these first 40 years. I’ve won some. I’ve lost some. I’ve learned a hell of a lot. And through every season, I’ve been surrounded by people who have loved me, challenged me, supported me, believed in me, and helped shape the man I am today.
For that, I am incredibly grateful. So thank you. Truly. Here’s to 40.
Here’s to becoming more intentional, more present, more disciplined, more grateful, and more alive. Here’s to the next 40 years. I have a feeling the best chapters haven’t even been written yet.
