A Day of Learning, Growth, and Opportunity

The 2026 West Virginia AAU District Championship weekend concluded with two outstanding seminars focused on developing the next generation of athletes and martial artists.

The morning session covered Bo Hojo Undo and Sakugawa no Kon, where students worked on the fundamentals of Okinawan Kobudo, including body mechanics, power generation, distance, timing, and traditional bo techniques.

The afternoon session was led by Sensei Joey Castro, who shared his knowledge of Ryuei-Ryu Kata Sanseru, giving participants an opportunity to explore one of Okinawa's most respected kata traditions and gain valuable insight into advanced kata performance and application.

Seminars like these are an important part of the martial arts journey. Competition challenges us, but learning from experienced instructors helps us grow beyond the tournament floor.

Thank you to everyone who attended the District Championship and the seminars. We were proud to welcome athletes and instructors from multiple schools, and we are especially proud that every eligible athlete left the tournament qualified for the 2026 AAU Karate National Championships.

West Virginia karate continues to grow because of dedicated students, supportive families, and instructors willing to share their knowledge.

🏆 THANK YOU! 🏆

On behalf of the West Virginia AAU Karate District, I would like to thank every athlete, coach, referee, volunteer, parent, and supporter who helped make the 2026 West Virginia AAU District Championship a success.

This year's event welcomed competitors from seven states including West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia. Together, we celebrated the spirit of competition, sportsmanship, and personal growth that defines karate.

A special thank you goes out to our officials and volunteers whose hard work allowed the tournament to run smoothly and conclude ahead of schedule. Your dedication is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to all of our medalists, district champions, and competitors. As an AAU District Championship, every athlete who competed today earned qualification for the 2026 AAU Karate National Championships, giving them the opportunity to represent their schools and communities on the national stage.

The weekend is not over yet! Join us tomorrow for two outstanding educational seminars. The Kobudo Seminar begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the Kata Seminar at 12:00 PM. These seminars are a fantastic opportunity to continue learning, sharpening skills, and growing as martial artists.

Most importantly, thank you to the schools and families who continue to support karate in West Virginia and throughout our region. Every athlete who stepped onto the floor today demonstrated courage, respect, and determination.

We are proud of what we are building together. From local competition to national championships and even world-level opportunities, the pathway for karate athletes in West Virginia continues to grow.

Thank you for being part of the journey. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and again next year!

🥋 Harrison County Commission Supports West Virginia Athletes

The Harrison County Commission has generously provided $5,500 in support of local athletes who will represent Harrison County, West Virginia and the United States at the 2026 WUKF World Karate Championships in Romania.

This investment helps offset travel expenses and demonstrates the Commission's commitment to youth development, athletic excellence, and international competition opportunities for West Virginia families.

On behalf of the athletes, coaches, and families involved, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Harrison County Commission for their support and belief in our community.

West Virginia may have a small population, but our athletes continue to prove they can compete on the world stage.

West Virginia AAU Karate – Looking Ahead

As we prepare for the upcoming AAU season, we want to take a moment to thank all West Virginia karate schools and athletes who participated in district and national-level events this past year.

It was great to see multiple WV programs qualify through the District Championships and represent our state at AAU Nationals. The success and sportsmanship shown reflected well on West Virginia as a whole.

Our focus moving forward is simple:
• fair and consistent competition
• clear pathways from district events to national opportunities
• a positive, respectful environment for athletes, coaches, and families

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be connecting with schools and sharing plans for the upcoming season. As always, WV AAU Karate exists to support the growth of karate across all programs in our state.
