Introduction
Scholars Basketball Academy was started on the belief that, “Excellence is not a singular act but a habit. You are what you do repeatedly.” Shaquille O’Neal was speaking truth and Scholars Basketball Academy is an organization that specializes in clinics, camps, and individual training to achieve the goal of helping each participant become the best athlete they can be. Our Mission
Our
mission is to assist our parents / communities in building Division 1 Basketball Players. Our organization promotes community service, academic wellness, and physical fitness. We provide our young participants with a well-rounded atmosphere that allows our staff to mentor, stimulate positive attitudes, and promote character building as well as athletic skills. Scholars Basketball Academy would utilize professional drills focusing on developing shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense, strategy, concepts, agility, strength, and self discipline. We apply the principles of hard work, dedication, preparation and discipline. We also want to emphasize lifelong skills such as values, self-esteem, goal setting and making responsible choices with every child that participates. We believe a great athlete is a true asset to a team, but an athlete of great character is a true asset to the world. Scholars Basketball Academy is more than just a clinic and camp but it’s an atmosphere where our youth can be challenged and inspired to be great. Purpose
Our purpose is to revitalize the idea of exercise and fitness in our everyday lives and it starts with our youth. Statistics show that 17 percent of boy and 16 percent of girls between the ages of 12 and 15 are classed as either overweight or obese. It also states that nearly three quarters of children are not getting the recommended 60 minutes of daily activity outside of school. The Scholars Basketball Academy wants to become a part of the solution and provide an outlet for the youth. All sports endorse the ideas of hand-eye coordination, motor skills, speed, agility, flexibility, strength, and conditioning which counteract the issues of obesity and the apathy about outside activity. Scholars Basketball Academy concentrates on the benefits of athletic skills to infuse discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a good work ethic; in addition to positive self-esteem and interpersonal skills. Our goal is to provide all the participants with the atmosphere where they can be themselves, develop their skills and grow into a great athlete. "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he gets old he will not depart from it." Coach Shawn Frison started this program to give back to the community in which he grew up on the South Eastside of Chicago. Shawn attended Leo High School where he started on a Top 5 National ranked high school basketball team. He later played four years at University of Wisconsin - Platteville for Hall of fame Coach Bo Ryan. In 1991, Shawn started on the Division III National Championship team where he was awarded tournament MVP and National Player of the Year. Shawn was inducted into the University of Wisconsin - Platteville Hall of Fame in 1997.
