You actually shouldn’t take the stairs every time
Stairs are something we encounter time to time in our daily lives that make us question if we need to get in better shape or not
But what do stairs actually do for our body?
Asides from increasing your step count which is always beneficial, taking the stairs is a great way to engage different muscle groups like the glutes, lower body, and core. More times you take the stairs, you may notice your cardiovascular health improve as you stop gasping for air at the top
However, when it comes to going down the stairs, the consequences outweigh the benefits. See when you go down the stairs, you’re stressing your kneecaps and joints due to the way your hips and thighs try to control itself against gravity. It’s the reason all stairmasters are built to go up
So a good general rule of thumb is to take the stairs going up and take anything else going down
