Somewhere out there, an influencer posted a video of herself being taught to shoot a bow at a Ren Faire. It must have been successful, because there are now HUNDREDS of AI-generated copy videos. The woman and her outfit changes each video like you’re selecting a video game character, but they all use the same original audio and unedited footage of the instructor. No one is certain which is the original.

UPDATE: We found the original video!!! And it turns out I’m a single Kevin Bacon layer from the folks running the booth because of course we are.

Check your post settings and make sure to toggle off AI permissions, otherwise you can end up the Jango Fett to an army of slop clones.

My new weekend project I’ll never find time for! This buckler was $25 on a table at WMAW. It LOOKS like it’s made of rust but that’s actually a layer of brown paint. Looking for ways to strip the paint, then I’ll decide if I want to repaint it with any heraldry colors or refinish the bare steel.

Fun fact: Bucklers were famously loud and annoying to carry around, to the point that punks clanking around looking for fights were called ‘swashbucklers.’

Workshopping a public habit:
As I’ve started teaching childrens’ classes and take a while to learn names, I sometimes call them ‘friend’ as a placeholder and to make myself seem less intimidating. I’ve been debating saying ‘archer’ instead, to make them feel recognized as doing something cool.

If you were an adult archery student, a Ren Faire customer, or somewhere as casual as an airport: Does ‘friend’ work? Are there terms that would fit my look and personality better?
