This is where character is built.

It’ll either crush you or drive you.

It’ll define you either way.

There is nothing that compares to thriving, soaring, flying… to being injured and completely shut down in the gymnastics world.

It’s a battle so many gymnasts face.

It’s also a risk they are willing to take.

I’m here to make it a little bit easier.

To help your gymnast find her fire again.

Learn to walk again. Then learn to run.

Learn to flip & trust their body again.

And ultimately… fall in love, again and again.

After going through the comeback journey more times than I can count as a level 10 gymnast myself… I know exactly what this feels like.

Helping your gymnast through this journey & getting them to the other side of it, is my greatest joy.

If this is you or your gymnast, don’t give up.

This is all part of their journey… gymnasts, let it build you, not break you.

Hi 👋 I’m Brittany Dr. Brittany Lapinski || Gymnastics Physical Therapist - former NCAA gymnast & Doctor of Physical Therapy gymnastics specialist for injury prevention and recovery.

Gymnast’s wrist is a slang name for distal radial epiphysitis or distal radial physeal stress syndrome - meaning inflammation in the growth plate in the wrist joint.

It’s named after gymnast’s for a reason - because gymnast’s (cheer, acro) use their hands and wrists like they are ankles and feet — making it a common injury in gymnasts (not so common in other sports).

To prevent it, we often focus on stronger hands and wrists… but what if I told you, most gymnasts develop Gymnast’s wrist for a different reason.

Overhead strength, mobility, and stability are the main reasons gymnast’s develop wrist issues.

🤔Let me explain…

If the shoulders and upper spine don’t:
👉 move well (open enough)
👉have good control (open and close upside in a handstand)
👉have enough strength or power (to support body weight+gravity+force —- hello 👋 physics I 🫶🏼 you)

Then wrists (elbow &/or low back) end up taking the brunt of the force (it has to go somewhere).

Your gymnast will get the job done to accomplish her skills no matter what, but something will give if it’s underprepared for the complexity or intensity of the skill.

Kiddos with Gymnast’s wrist are often casted to calm the inflammation and then sent to OT to work on hand and wrist strength, then sent back into the gym.

This is asking for disaster.

This is why gymnastics specific rehab from someone who understands the depth of the sport is so important!

If your gymnast has gymnast wrist or is struggling with wrist pain, she needs the right rehab exercises to address the issue holistically.

Gymnast wrist is generally not well understood by medical professionals because it’s not common in the general population and isn’t something they see frequently.

Don’t mess around with generic PT & constant bracing and casting as a solution — you’ll end up stuck in a cycle.

Are we okay?! Just checking… cuz that isn’t going to work!

Hi 👋 I’m Brittany Dr. Brittany Lapinski || Gymnastics Physical Therapist - former NCAA gymnast & Doctor of Physical Therapy gymnastics specialist for injury prevention and recovery.

I wish it worked… for you… for your kiddo.

But I can promise it won’t.

It might help temporarily, but when she starts flipping again her pain is going to come back.

So I just wanted to check in… so that you know there is an actual, real way to heal your gymnasts pain or injury.

And it involves making her body better able to tolerate the demands of gymnastics.

More…
👉Stability
👉Strength
👉Mobility

…specific to her sport.

It’s simple really… well… with the right program and exercises & some hard work.

But, not just any program is going to have what your gymnast needs.

She’s unique. Her sport is friggen hard. She’s tough as nails.

And her body does things that normal people’s bodies never will.

Pain now = bigger injury later.

Injury now = needing to rehab to get her body ready to do gymnastics again.
