🏴‍☠️ ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR

We're honored to be recognized by United Women's Soccer as its League II Organization of the Year.

Recognition is appreciated, but it's never been the mission. Steel City exists to amplify the elite young adult players of the region and give them a club worthy of their talent and ambition.

This honor belongs first to those players, and to the coaches who invest in them every day:

🏴‍☠️ THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

Steel City closed the 2026 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Lake Force, and fittingly, it was the club's next generation that wrote the final chapter.

In the sixth minute, Emily Herlihy stood over a free kick more than 30 yards from goal, the same spot where she buried a direct free kick against Force a season ago. This time her driven ball found Veronica Davila, who deftly redirected it for her first goal in red-n-black.

Davila has been a constant engine in Steel City's midfield all season, and Sunday's breakthrough felt richly deserved.

Davila’s goal felt like a goal-of-the-season candidate, until the next moment came.

High school sophomore Alina Mkhwanazi, battling all summer for minutes against seasoned veterans, seized hers with both hands. Picking up the ball near midfield in the 75th, the Kankakee High School standout glided past a string of defenders before coolly slotting home a stunning solo effort for the winner.

There couldn't have been a more fitting finish. The final two goals of Steel City's season belonged to two players who look set to shape many more seasons to come.

The victory sees Steel City finish the campaign 3W-3L-2D (11 points), a four-point improvement on last year's inaugural UWS2 season and another step forward for a side whose best days still lie ahead.

Steel City heads to Judson University for a 9am season finale against Crystal Lake Force.

The red-n-black opened the campaign by taking points from their first three matches before this current four-match winless skid, scoring just twice during the stretch.

A 44th-minute red card halted Steel City's momentum in Tuesday's draw with Wheaton United.

Now comes one final chance to finish the season at .500.

One match remains, and Breanna Herlihy sits just one goal off the top of the league's Golden Boot race.

Count her out at your peril.

Herlihy scores in bunches. Late last season, she buried four goals against Team Chicago in a single match. If anyone can flip a Golden Boot race in 90 minutes, it's Bre.

It wouldn't be the first time a Steel City player authored a final-day masterpiece.

Last season on the men's side, Christian "The Train" Baumgartner entered the finale trailing the Golden Boot race by three goals. Then Slammers Stadium became his theater.

Four goals later, the Train had stormed past the field and claimed the league's most coveted individual honor in one unforgettable night.

Steel City closes the 2026 campaign Sunday morning against Crystal Lake Force.

With one match remaining in the season, Steel City goalkeeper Hannah Fedinec sits atop the league's saves chart.

It's no surprise. The Woodridge native and Downers Grove South product has built a reputation on doing the hard work.

Last fall at Loras College, Fedinec recorded an astounding 11 shutouts, allowing just six goals in 19 matches.

Fedinec has taken on the Steel City identity from day one — tough, unflinching, and at her best when the work gets ugly.

Playing the entire second half with ten players, Steel City dug deep to earn a 0-0 draw against Wheaton United SC Tuesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

The red-n-black were on the front foot until seeing red just before halftime. Despite being down a player, the hosts defended resolutely and still created chances, while Wheaton was also left to wonder what might have been.

The draw lifts Steel City into fourth place with one match remaining.

The 2026 campaign concludes Sunday morning against bottom-of-the-table Crystal Lake Force at Judson University.

🏴‍☠️ ONE MORE NIGHT IN JOLIET

The final home match of the season arrives under the lights.

Steel City Women make history Tuesday night, playing their first-ever match at Joliet Memorial Stadium, with plenty still to play for.

A victory would lift the red-and-black into third place heading into Sunday's season finale in Crystal Lake.

Danny Mack has a full-strength squad to choose from, led by league saves leader Hannah Fedinec between the posts and Golden Boot contender Breanna Herlihy, who enters the night second in the league scoring race.

🏴‍☠️ Home Finale

Steel City Women host Wheaton United SC in the final home match of 2026, Tuesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

With just two matches remaining, the red-n-black sit fifth in the table - only four points behind second place.

There were encouraging signs on Friday. Cami Butler opened her ‘26 account after recording three goals and three assists a season ago. Bre Herlihy continues to turn creator - after finishing ‘25 with five goals and one assist, she already has three assists this summer.

Veronica Davila continues to buzz all over the center of the park, and Emly Herlihy and Ursala Bravo strengthen the spine.

Couple all of that with the play of Hannah Fedinec – an emerging starlet - in goal, there’s optimism over a late season surge.

These sides opened the campaign in June. Steel City felt it left points on the table after creating the better chances in a 2-2 draw. Payton Lucitt marked her club debut with a goal before Bre Herlihy fired home 18 minutes later.
