So, the 2018 Bowtech Reign 7 saga continues…we made changes from last year’s build to gain a little more speed with a higher percentage of let-off. Changes to the string from last year to this year are:
- New string, same material as last year, (Bloodline 99 aka Brave 99) main string is built 1/16” longer and had to be shortened 1/2 turn to align the peep sight perfectly for final tuning.
- Different speed nocks with the same placement (total weight change 1.4 grains)
- Same final draw weight @ 73 lbs, hold weight changed from 14 lbs to 12.8 lbs, let-off changed from 80.8 % to 82.4%
- Same arrow with all previous string sets at 486.8 grains, new speed is 287.9.
Last thing I wanted to mention is that this bow is on its 5th set of strings. The first 3 sets of strings were from other manufacturers and all tuned by me. Speeds were:
- 279.8 Factory strings
- 284.7 ACA custom strings (They shut down)
- 279.9 un-named custom string company
So what does this all equate to? Firstly, changing string length and speed nock weight certainly gained big speed improvements. We were able to gain 8.1 fps over factory strings! Realistically, we always aim for higher fps over factory strings for all of our custom builds, but we really nailed it with this bow! Second, not all custom bowstrings are the same! We know we make high quality custom bowstrings that will last. You don’t have to spend 160-250 for a custom bowstring that we can build as good if not better for less.
