What do you guys think? Or who still does them?

Who remembers the old deer drives, and should we bring them back?

Growing up, deer drives were a big part of deer season. We’d sit the first couple days of Ohio gun season, but after that we’d hunt the morning, then spend most of the day pushing woods, creek bottoms, and thickets before climbing back into the stand for the last hour or two before dark. Everybody had a role, whether you were sitting on a stand or walking through the woods pushing deer toward the other hunters.

These days, deer drives seem a lot less common. Between leased properties, smaller hunting parcels, and changing hunting styles, a tradition that was once a staple of deer camp has become harder to find. You still see them happening in some places, but they don’t seem nearly as prevalent as they once were.

Do you think we should bring back the old deer drives, or is hunting better the way it is today? There’s something about a group of hunters working together, hoping to push a big buck past somebody, that today’s younger hunters might never experience. Let me know what you think in the comments.
