The Confidence Question
Everybody wants confidence...
Almost nobody agrees on where it comes from...
I've seen athletes with elite talent who fold under pressure, and athletes with average talent who never blink...
So where does REAL Confidence come from?
I'm talking like the kind that shows up when it's hardest?
This is what I teach my athletes:
Confidence is a Skill that YOU can and should Build...
It has Three Parts and Three Places...
1. Confidence is Built through PREPARATION. (Your brain is a Goal seeking device and it is constantly looking for EVIDENCE & PROOF.)
2. Confidence is Built and Reinforced by PAST EXPERIENCES (Specifically, past experiences where you've OVERCOME CHALLENGES, which plays into a constant search for Evidence & Proof.)
3. Confidence is Built in Developing the Skill of PRESENT MOMENT THINKING. (It's a known fact that the Brain and your Mind work Best when it negates TWO SPECIFIC TIME PERIODS: The Past & The Future.) It THRIVES When YOU are able to sustain FOCUS through EX*****ON and stay in the present moment. "Be where your feet are" OR "W.I.N." (What's Important Now!!
I call this the THREE P's:
1. PREPARATION
2. PAST EXPERIRNCES
3. PRESENT MOMENT THINKING
IF you are an Aspiring Athlete, get yourself a Mental Performance Coach and remember...
ATHLETES Always do things TWICE:
First, MENTALLY and then PHYSICALLY.
Ask yourself this simple yet powerful two-part question:
How much of your athletic performance is Physical and How much of it is Mental?
Let's say you said 50% Physical and 50% Mental or some other ratio...
Then ask yourself, How many Drills, Routines and Skill Development exercises are you currently doing that make up the Mental Side of Performance?!
IF you are like most athletes...
It's either one of two answers...
1. Not as much as I should...
OR
2. I'm not sure how or what to do to train the Mental Side of my performance.
STOP leaving the most important part of your training to chance!!
