From Matt Martini:
Review of the Altimas Program by Daniel Horner
BLUF: For those who don’t want to read everything below, I believe it’s worth the purchase.
I’ve known Daniel Horner for a long time, and I want to start by saying I paid for my subscription to his Altimas program just like everyone else. The opinions here are my own—this isn’t a paid endorsement, nor am I receiving anything in return. That’s important to clarify because there’s a real issue in the shooting community with reviews often tied to discount codes or other incentives.
Dan’s Altimas program focuses primarily on the Altimas Performance Program, which goes far beyond shooting skills. It delves into mental game development, self-assessment, goal-setting, and creating an actionable plan to reach those goals. It’s about understanding where you currently stand, where you want to be, and bridging that gap.
The program is structured into seven modules, each with lessons that build on each other. I completed it over three days, dedicating about two hours per session to thoroughly absorb the content. I plan to revisit it as I write my training plan for the 2026 season in preparation for the Shotgun World Shoot. Some of the mental techniques and training methods I’ve already identified will be key in making 2025 a highly productive year.
While Dan’s expertise is rooted in practical shooting, the program is broadly applicable to life management and goal achievement. However, for those in the practical shooting world, the benefits are immediate if implemented correctly. Many shooters tell me their mental game is their biggest hurdle—they struggle with preparation, visualization, and focus. This program addresses those gaps directly.
At $255, I believe the program is an excellent investment for shooters looking to improve. To put it into perspective: a case of 5.56 ammo might last you two training sessions, but this program provides over four hours of content that, if applied diligently, offers years of progression. It helps you train smarter, not just harder.
That said, this isn’t a “learn to shoot” program. If you’re brand new to shooting, you might be better off focusing on acquiring foundational skills, gear, and ammo first. However, if you’re an 80% shooter trying to break past mental barriers or a 90-95% shooter seeking that last bit of refinement, Altimas is invaluable.
The core takeaway is this: the program emphasizes that your performance comes down to you vs. you. Your ability to honestly evaluate and manage yourself is what determines your success, both on and off the range.
In closing, the Altimas Performance Program is a worthwhile investment for most shooters. It’s especially beneficial for those who want to elevate their mental game and approach training with a structured, results-driven plan.
