🔥 PRO WORK. PRO ENERGY. PRO RESULTS.

Cade Tyson Cade Tyson . Jaire Grayer Jaire Grayer . Josh Banks.

A strong mix of collegiate, G League, and overseas talent in the gym—getting ready for the upcoming season, working their way back from injuries, and sharpening every part of their game.

This workout was all about team concepts:

🏀 Flex action
🏀 Slice cuts
🏀 Dribble Hand Offs

The energy was CRAZY, and everybody finished the workout above the rim! 💥

Different journeys. Same hunger. Everybody came to WORK.

This is what the offseason looks like at Slay Basketball Academy. 💙🏀

💙🏀 MEET THEM WHERE THEY ARE. HELP THEM GET BETTER.

We’re incredibly grateful to Jenna Enoch and Spectrum News for sharing the special story of Adam Smith and Coach Scott Merritt.

Adam is a national champion at Auburn who is now training for the Paralympics. He is a determined competitor and an inspiration to everyone who has the opportunity to watch him work. Hearing his father speak about how special Adam has been since the day he was born made this story even more powerful.

A huge shoutout to Coach Scott Merritt for creating drills specifically for Adam—challenging him, encouraging him, and helping him continue developing his game from his wheelchair.

That is what coaching is all about.

At Slay Basketball, it doesn’t matter who walks, runs, or rolls through our doors. We meet every athlete exactly where they are, believe in what they can become, and do everything we can to help them get better.

Adam, thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey. Your work ethic, determination, and love for the game inspire our entire Slay Basketball family.

We’ll be cheering for you every step of the way as you pursue your Paralympic dream!

Different journey. Same passion. Same commitment. Same game.

Happy Birthday, Coach CJ.
Five years of showing up. Same standard. Same loyalty. No shortcuts.
One of the most consistent people I’ve ever had in the building — and that’s not talk. That’s every practice, every weekend, every season.
If you know Coach CJ, you already know. Help us wish him a happy birthday.
Grateful for you, Coach. Enjoy your day.

One year ago today, I decided it was time to start again.

I was 286 pounds. After getting sick, losing weight, and then gaining nearly 60 pounds back, I didn’t feel like myself physically.

I didn’t begin with some perfect plan. I simply started walking.

The walking led to eating better. Eating better gave me more energy. Then I started lifting again. Little by little, day by day, I began rebuilding myself.

Today, I’m 245 pounds—41 pounds down. I’m benching 270 pounds, feeling stronger, and at 46 years old, I’m still able to get above the rim and dunk. 🏀💪🏾

This journey has reminded me that progress doesn’t happen overnight. It takes discipline, patience, consistency, sacrifice, and the willingness to keep showing up—even on the days when you don’t feel like it.

That’s the same message I give our athletes at Slay Basketball Academy: you don’t have to be great when you start, but you have to start if you ever want to become great.

I’m still working. Still growing. Still pushing.

The journey isn’t over—but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. 🙏🏾

Start where you are. Use what you have. Keep showing up.

THIS is what dedication looks like. ❤️🖤

Coach CJ—one-on-one at the basket, patiently helping one of our youngest kindergarten athletes build confidence and learn the game.

Coach Jordan—sitting crisscross applesauce with our young girls, meeting them at their level, teaching, encouraging, and building relationships.

Great coaching isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s slowing down, getting on a child’s level, and giving them the attention they need to grow.

That’s what we’re building through Junior Slay and Lady Slay—strong fundamentals, confidence, character, and a genuine love for basketball.

We’re not just developing players. We’re pouring into the next generation—and we’re blessed to have coaches who truly care.

🎯 Young adults need to understand that reaching your goals takes more than talent.

It takes commitment when the excitement wears off.
It takes professionalism in how you prepare, communicate, and carry yourself.
It takes sacrifice—sometimes saying no to what feels good today so you can accomplish something greater tomorrow.
It takes discipline to keep working when nobody is watching.
And most importantly, it takes time.

There aren’t many overnight success stories. Success is usually built through years of consistency, setbacks, growth, patience, and showing up every single day.

Don’t get discouraged because it isn’t happening as quickly as you hoped. Stay focused. Stay committed. Trust the process and keep putting in the work.

Your goals are possible—but you must be willing to become the person capable of achieving them. 💯🏀

Coach Slay on TMZ 🏀🔥

Just got interviewed by TMZ about kids reclassing to gain an edge in athletics. What an awesome experience.

Big shoutout to Harvey and Charles for reaching out — it was an honor to be on that platform, share some real talk on the topic, and put a little shine on Slay Basketball Academy.

Proud of the work we’re doing and grateful for opportunities like this to keep building.

An unforgettable experience for our young athletes at Slay Basketball Academy! 🏀

Our Rob Dillingham Clinic gave kids from the community an opportunity to learn, compete, have fun, and hear firsthand what it takes to reach the highest level of basketball.

With Rob Dillingham, Darren Collison, ProVision, and Tamar Slay all sharing their knowledge and experiences, the day was about much more than basketball. It was about inspiring kids to set goals, believe in themselves, and understand that their dreams are achievable.

We are proud to provide a first class facility where young athletes can train, grow, build confidence, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to every family who joined us and to Rico Greer for helping bring this special event together. This is what community is all about! ❤️🖤
