🌎🦦 Happy World Otter Day from Little Otter Swim School! 🦦💙

Just like otters, children are naturally curious, playful, and happiest when they feel confident in the water. Today we’re celebrating these amazing animals and the important reminder they give us — water should be a place for fun, learning, and connection!

At Little Otter Swim School, we love helping children build confidence, develop life-saving swim skills, and create joyful memories in the water every day. Whether your little one is just getting comfortable splashing or learning advanced techniques, we’re proud to help them grow into strong and safe swimmers.

Tell us below: What’s your child’s favorite thing to do in the water? 🌊🐾

This Memorial Day, Little Otter Swim School honors and remembers the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

As families gather this holiday weekend, we are grateful for the freedoms their sacrifice made possible. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and meaningful Memorial Day filled with time together, reflection, and gratitude.

If your plans include the pool or lake, remember to stay water safe: 💦 Always supervise children near water 🛟 Wear life jackets when appropriate ☀️ Stay hydrated and use sunscreen.

From all of us at Little Otter Swim School, thank you to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice — and to the families who carry their legacy forward. ❤️🤍💙

☀️🦦 It’s National Don’t Fry Day! 🧴🌊

At , we know sunny days and pool time go hand in hand — but protecting your child’s skin is just as important as water safety!

Before heading outside, remember to: ☀️ Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) 🕶️ Wear hats, rash guards, and sunglasses 💧 Take breaks in the shade ⏰ Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours — and after swimming!

Healthy sun habits help kids stay safe, comfortable, and ready for fun all summer long. 🩵

Stay sun-safe and splash happy!

Did you know -- research shows drowning victims are most often rescued by people nearby, not trained professionals, simply because they are closest to the incident. More than 60% of bystander rescues happen before help arrives. That's why it's important to know what to do if you suspect someone is in trouble.

Reach or throw, don't go! In the event of an emergency, reach or throw an object to the person in trouble and tell them to grab on. Don’t go in! You could be in danger of drowning yourself.

Hollywood and TV present drowning as a loud event with yelling, splashing, and waving. Unfortunately, that isn't true in real life. Drowning is fast and silent.
No splashing. No yelling. No waving. 88% of drownings happen with at least one adult present.

⚠️ Boys are at a higher risk for drowning than girls—and the difference is significant.
Studies show that boys account for a majority of drowning incidents across childhood and adolescence, especially in open water.

Why?
• More frequent water exposure
• Higher-risk behavior and overconfidence
• Less consistent supervision in certain settings

💡 But here’s the most important part: this is preventable.
Swim lessons, life jacket use, and active supervision all reduce risk dramatically.
🛟 Water safety isn’t about fear—it’s about preparation.

Thanks for the info,

Swimming lessons are an essential layer of protection, but layers only work when used together.
To keep our little ones safer, we need to combine multiple safety measures, including:
- Barriers: Secure pools and water areas properly using > 48-inch fencing with a self-closing and self-latching gate.
- Active Supervision (3Cs - Close, Constant, Capable): Always keep a watchful eye on children in or near the water.
- Water Competency: It’s never too early to get children in Swim Lessons!
- Life Jackets: Use them when necessary,
especially in open waters or when boating.
- Emergency Preparedness: Know what to do in an emergency or if you see someone in distress in the water.
Together, these 5 layers offer multiple points of protection for our loved ones. Let's ensure every splash is a safer one!

🔁💦 Why Repetition Matters in Swim Lessons 💦🔁

At Little Otter Swim School, you might notice we repeat skills often—and that’s no accident. Repetition is one of the most powerful tools we use to help your child become a safe, confident swimmer.

Here’s why it matters so much:

🧠 It strengthens growing brains
Each time your child practices a skill, their brain builds stronger connections—helping them learn faster, remember more, and improve overall cognitive development.

🌊 It deepens understanding
For little swimmers, everything is new! Repeating skills over time helps them truly understand what they’re learning—not just go through the motions.

💪 It builds muscle memory
We love the phrase: practice makes permanent. Repetition helps skills stick so your child’s body can react automatically—especially important for water safety.

🌟 It boosts confidence
When kids practice and improve, they feel it! That growing confidence helps them become more comfortable and capable in and around the water.

🤍 It creates comfort and security
Kids thrive on predictability. Repeating familiar skills and routines helps them feel safe, secure, and excited to learn (because let’s be honest—they LOVE saying “again!”).

At Little Otter Swim School, every repeated skill is building toward something bigger: stronger swimmers, safer kids, and more confident learners.
