I’m used to Friday Night Lights. I’m used to Coastal Carolina’s surf turf. This week I combined both, setting up in the booth again for Coastal vs App State on ESPN2.

It was great to be back in Conway, sorry the City of Halloween, to see Alex Souza, meet new students he’s growing to the next generation, and finally work directly with Ross Productions.

Now time to spend two weeks at home. A nice break from the road is due, and there’s still some good stuff lined up.

Words cannot truly describe the fortune I had to be a part of the first ever Banana Bowl. For five days in DC, I was a part of the culmination of 11 years of work by owners Jesse and Emily Cole as they put on a spectacle like no other.

To be in Nationals Park for five days of set up, rehearsal and pay off was remarkable. To be mere feet from the likes of Lindsey Sterling, Andy Grammer and Penatonix while they performed? Insane. To be a small part of a unique Disney show starring the Jonas Brothers and every member of Banana Ball singing their original song “Look What We Made” was thrilling. To share a field with John Cena was wild. To take in an OAR concert with about 50 people was remarkable.

To meet Lindsey Sterling, Andy Grammer, Marc Roberge (lead of OAR) and have them all be so gracious was surreal. To meet Mike Eruzione and TJ Oshie (who I let know I was a Penguins fan) made the hockey fan in me beam. To be on the field of a sold out Major League Baseball stadium was emotional.

And most importantly, to do so with so many members of my BTV friends and family was the most important thing. I came on board regularly late in the game and I always felt accepted from the jump. At no point did I feel like I didn’t belong or was an outsider. But that’s the entirety Bananaland. There has not been a single person inside of the organization that isn’t a truly wonderful human, something Emily Cole said in her post game wrap up. They have a heart and soul and they protect it. And you feel it.

Thank you to Jesse and Emily for risking so much, building something so wonderful, so unique, and with such whimsy that is slowly taking over the world. Thank you to my entire BTV family for adopting me and letting me in to your world.

Let’s do it all again next year.

Eight years ago I was on the sidelines in Columbia as my employer, the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, took on the South Carolina Gamecocks. This weekend I was back on the sidelines for sideline audio as those Gamecocks took on the #24 Kentucky Wildcats.

Only my second time on the field for football, it was yet another wonderful week of growth and awesome experience, combining the knowledge of my last time on the field at Coastal Carolina, my ability to handle wireless and RF signal with Banana Ball, and what I already know of Williams Brice Stadium.

Football season is far from over. I’m looking forward to what the next month plus holds, whether it’s field or booth.

I’m no stranger to Credit One Stadium. I’m there every year for world class tennis and the wonderful people at the Tennis Channel. But this weekend? A much different court, a much different ball.

The first annual LinkU Invitational had beautiful skies and perfect temps as college basketball exhibitions tipped off. Vanderbilt, Virginia, The Citadel, College of Charleston men’s and women’s as well as the South Carolina Gamecock women found the hardwood on the clay court for three games.

Serving as A2 gave me such unique opportunities beyond sitting courtside and taking in the special spectacle. Meeting Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams and securing him as a halftime interview, meeting Dawn Staley as well as comedian Nate Bargatze (Vandy Guy) just emphasized how special the event was.

By all accounts there’s a reason they’re calling this the first annual. It was great to work at home, in my back yard. And I can’t wait for the sequel next year.

This summer gave me the chance to became a part of the wonderful Banana Ball crew. Here in Charleston, in Montana as well as South Dakota I was fortunate to be a part of the fun and folly of the Banana Ball Championship League.

Then I was asked to make my way to Savannah and Historic Grayson Stadium for a series with the Bananas and Tailgaters, the last two teams I hadn’t worked with.

There was something unique and magical about being in the home base of the Savannah Bananas. The atmosphere was different, the show was spectacular and the fans were all in from all over.

The ability to go across the street to the office, meet my coworkers and see the control rooms really added to the whole experience. Putting faces to names and voices from remi productions was a way make new friends. Plus I always forget how wonderful Savannah is.

The season is winding down for Banana Ball. Thankfully I have at least one more stop to go with them. Truly a wonderful, unique company to work with and I consider myself very lucky.

Last weekend marked Week One of the college football season and I was able to kick it off in Columbia, SC as the Kent State Golden Flashes took on the home town South Carolina Gamecocks!

In record heat (hottest game ever played in Williams-Brice Stadium), our incredible crew put on one hell of a show. While I had it easier in booth and out of the sun, where I served as Booth A2, it was still a spicy one.

It was one amazing way to kick off what’s already been a season to write about. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the season goes.

Another week on the road. Another week with Banana Ball. Another week of growth. This time in the wonderful and gorgeous city of Sioux Falls, SD.

The Indianapolis Clowns hosted the Firefighters and I was back on the field as A2, micing up players, coaches (sometimes both at once) and two sideline reporters. Of course, setting up the booth as well.

It was once again a pleasure to be a part of the traveling joy of Banana Ball. The professional growth that’s coming, getting more comfortable with new aspects of the job, is a bonus.

Thanks to Sioux Falls for being a delightful host. As far as Banana Ball? I’ve got one more go for the season. I’ll see you in a few weeks in Savannah.

It’s wonderful when your fun job really shows to be something so much bigger than just that. It’s a feeling I was able to grab last week in Billings, MT as I traveled with the Banana Ball team to help with audio as the Firefighters took on the Party Animals.

My second taste of Banana Ball, my first time traveling, and it was to a city that was so thrilled to have such an event there, in person, for them. A common chorus would echo, “Nothing like this ever comes here.” It did, and they showed their love.

It was great to be back in the dugout for Banana Ball and wonderful to be in the rotation for such a fun, unique experience. With a few more bookings under my belt, I look forward to each show getting better.

I’d done wrestling. I’d done boxing. Now I could cross another off the list as I went to Charlotte to help set up and work audio for the Professional Fighters League Charlotte event.

Serving as A2 to set up booth, mic up refs and special guests it was an eventful two days in the Queen City as I marked another sport off of the list.

With a new found respect for mixed martial arts and more reps, getting deeper in the weeds rolling as an A2, it was a fun and invaluable experience. Hoping to be back ringside soon!

There’s always a show you hear about a just know “I’m going to work that one day.” And hey, I finally got that call this week.

While it was just for one day, I was asked to head to Rock Hill and be the set and first show day A2 for the ACL World Championships.

In charge of booth set up, nat mics and the mics under the boards I got the basics of the show up and running.

From there I worked with the RF A2 to mic up the co****le players in game, (is it a co****le game? A match?) quickly swapping out mics and packs between commercial breaks.

This year it was just one day, a necessary fill in for a moment. Hopefully it means I can hang out with my friends a bit longer next year.
