Showing out here at Cooperstown All Star Village. We’ve had first home runs for a couple kids, big pitching moments for others, amazing plays in the field. But what has impressed me & everyone we’ve played is the amount of energy & sportsmanship they’ve shown. There’s nothing easy about Cooperstown, but these boys are battling and doing it the right way, representing not only our org but our region with pride.
We’ve played two teams from Hawaii who showed us their tradition of giving gifts to the opposing players after the game no matter the outcome. We just wrapped up against the team from Australia & they did the same thing. We’ve played teams from California whose coaches came up to me afterwards to tell us how enjoyable it was to play our boys in a very tight game.
My hot take, biggest takeaway from this experience, and something this team has bought into is this isn’t about one player, one coach, one play, one failure. It’s about playing the game for each other. Not only are our boys battling for each other, but I know for a fact we’ve got the entire state of Hawaii & California behind us, and now we’ve just added an entire country of Australia behind us.
Happy 250th USA, what a ride! Championship game at 3pm!
