Did you know that Courtesy is the first tenet of Taekwon-Do (and many other martial arts) for a reason?
It is there because you do not have to agree with others, accept their way of life, approve of their choices, or even like them. However, showing courtesy and respect to others is what separates a true martial artist from the crowd.
Courtesy is not about agreeing with everyone it is about maintaining your own character, discipline, and standards regardless of how others behave. A person's actions reflect their character; your response reflects yours.
A true martial artist understands that respect should be given freely, even when it is not returned. It takes far more strength, self-control, and confidence to remain courteous than it does to respond with anger, insults, or hostility.
So ask yourself: Do you show everyone Courtesy, even when they do not show it to you?
Courtesy • Integrity • Perseverance • Self-Control • Indomitable Spirit
These are not just words we recite they are principles we should strive to live every day.
