Well shucks... that didn't go as planned this past weekend at Montpelier Motor Speedway by the Milkman. But that's been the theme for the whole chaotic season it seems.
After a decent qualifying run and adequate heat race, the night and season came to an end midway through the make-up feature due to a leak in the oil pan. Fortunately it was not the traditional angry connecting rod punching though the oil pan, but something external putting a small gouge in the side of the pan. couldn't find any bubblegum or quick set JB weld. But it should be an easy fix for the off season.
Off season- part of me questions whether the frustration , time and $$$ is really worth fighting the uphill battle especially since a few of the teams have got REALLY GOOD! I used to think an occasional top 5 was achievable, but now maybe a top 10 is more realistic with my current resources. Its tempting to exchange the operation and get a pontoon to relax floating around on the lake. Or maybe invest in a hunting plot where there is more than one deer per square mile... I have quite a few projects around the house too that are on my mental list.
But I also have a competitive and stubborn side too. Between the early season issues with getting new system harness and engine figured , and out the rainouts and small technical annoyances, I really don't feel like this season gave us a fair shot either to see if the upgrades were beneficial. Part of me still wants to take a couple of opportunities to drive it myself though my birth certificate and physical fitness coach (or lack of) argues that this may not be a good idea.
So I have a few months to figure this out. Finding a few business partners would definitely help, but personally I find it difficult to ask others for money to support wat i consider to be one of my passions. We are blessed to have many successful businesses in our area, but there is also a lot of need in the community too that they use their blessings to support. And therefore that is why I use my racing as a means to promote a mission that is very important to me- conservation of land, habitat, and natural resources.
One last note: I am interested in upgrading to an enclosed trailer. Nothing fancy or extravagant. Something from 18-24' would be ideal. So if anyone is selling one- I may be interested.
