Reverse breathing is one of the biggest challenges I see with my clients and I used to do it as well.
Many of us think that when we inhale, we should pull our stomach in and lift our chest. While the ribs do expand with an inhale, sucking your stomach in sends the breath into your chest instead of allowing your whole core to expand.
Over time, this creates poor pressure management and can push excess pressure down into the abdomen and pelvic floor.
Instead, think of your inhale as a 360Β° expansion. Let your ribs, sides, back, and belly gently expand. Then, as you exhale, everything naturally comes back together.
Learning to breathe this way can improve core function, reduce unnecessary tension, and help your body move the way it was designed to.
Have you ever noticed yourself sucking your stomach in when you breathe? π
