I am a life-long resident of Maryland. I grew up in politics as the eldest daughter of Senator Harry J. In my early years, I was inspired to teach and obtained my B.A. in Elementary Education and Special Education from Loyola College. I went on to receive my Masters of Education from Loyola. Because I am the daughter of a dedicated public servant, and because I became a special education teacher,

my life became focused on how the lives of children and families in Maryland could be made better. For 35 years I have worked in public service and education. I know that things are tough for families trying to raise children in a world that demands a good education in order to obtain a good job. I have decided to run for public office because I believe I can make a difference. I want to dedicate my life to working for my community, enhancing the lives of children, youth and families by creating the kind of public policies that create educational opportunities, increased public safety, job growth, stability for the elderly and a solid plan for the future of our environment. I am also keenly aware that jobs are created by small businesses. We must do all that we can to make it easier for small businesses to survive and thrive in Maryland. That means more jobs for those who are ready to work. I want to work for working Marylanders, and those who still need a path to obtain well-paying jobs. I believe that people want to work, and that we must use all of the resources we have to educate them for the jobs of today. Education, job training and economic development go hand in hand. These are the working hands of Maryland. Let’s make education the engine of economic development by making public policies that create the job training we need to put people to work. My name is Renee McGuirk-Spence, and I’m asking you to PUT ME TO WORK FOR THE WORKING FAMILIES OF MARYLAND! Thank you all so much for all your help and support during the past year! I want you to know how much your friendship means to me and that I am doing well, getting my life back to normal ( normal for me). Running for office was a great experience! I made a lot of new friends and learned a lot about myself! My family and friends were incredible, giving so much of themselves! All in all, it was a GREAT experience! Jacqui Lampell was absolutely amazing! Her tireless energy and enthusiasm made the journey so worthwhile and enjoyable. I am back from the beach and ready to get back to what I do best, advocating for education! I return to MSDE on Monday, June 30th to begin my next chapter. Stay tuned and thank you from the bottom of my heart!
