Eric Gilmore Memorial

Eric Gilmore Memorial General Information The Eric W. Gilmore Memorial was established as a way to celebrate the life of a very special man. Our first recipient was Mr. Aaron Goddard.

Eric grew up in Hannibal, Ohio and enjoyed everything the southeastern side of the Buckeye state has to offer: he liked the outdoors, was a great golfer, and loved to hang out with friends. Eric had an amazing smile and a kind, gentle way about him. He was always there for his friends and family. His support and love was unwavering for everyone he cared about. To celebrate Eric’s life, we have cre

ated a yearly scholarship which will be awarded to one senior athlete at River High School attending a post-secondary institution. Aaron had outstanding golfing career at RHS. Aaron shared many of the same characteristics as Eric. He is hard working, loves golf, contributes to his community and is an always there for his family and friends. Aaron will be using his scholarship award to attend Zane State College, where he will major in Police Science. After graduation, Aaron plans on becoming a police officer. We have also provided support for Eric’s young daughter Kiera throughout the year. Our main source of funding is from local businesses, friends, family, and The Eric Gilmore Memorial Tournament. The inaugural tournament helped raise the funds to support the scholarship and Kiera. We had an amazing outpouring of support for this tournament from our community. The tournament fielded a team of thirty-four and was a major success. We were overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we received. The support and success of the tournament was more than we could have hoped for. In order to build and repeat this success, we are asking for donations for the Eric Gilmore Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament will once again be held at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course, 48485 East Captina Highway, Armstrong Mills, Ohio. To support the tournament, we will need prizes for raffles, welcome bags, food, beverages, supplies, and monetary donations. Any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. We will work with you to pick up anything you would like to donate. Our contact information is below. Please support us in any way possible. Please share this letter with anyone you feel can offer support to our cause. As we continue to grow, we will keep you informed of our progress. We loved our friend and we are going to honor him the best way we know. Please help us keep Eric’s memory alive. Thank you for your support. Sincerely,

Mac Thomas

Well Kiera’s Sophomore season has come to a close. She made an awesome effort to moving on to districts but came up a bit short. To say I and all of us are proud is an understatement. For only playing competitively for two years she has excelled and can only improve. I would also like to recognize Coach Fetty on his coaching career coming to a close. He has been a true supporter to our outing and has remained in close contact during the season. We wish you well and know we will continue to see you around. Eric and Pap would be beyond happy seeing how Kiera has turned into an amazing young lady. Thanks to everyone who donated and played in the outing!! Again, congratulations on a great season Kiera!!

Below are some pictures from a scrapbook Eric's mother (Shirley) kept for him.

The scrapbook is packed full of memories.

Many of those memories we were a part of and many we were not.

We enjoyed looking at them and I hope Kiera enjoys it as well.

I also enjoyed telling stories about Eric to Kiera...even the ones I probably should not tell!!!!

One of my favorite stories is when I went to visit Eric one day. This was circa 1991-1992.

If you knew Eric, he was always practicing golf.

I remember going to Eric's house and he was pitching balls out of the cemetery by his house. This was a common thing for Eric...however...this day was a little different.

Larry (Eric's Dad) had recently purchased a new Ford F-150.

Eric's front yard was not large but always a good landing area to hit onto.

When I arrived, much to my horror, Eric was hitting wedge shots over the hood of Larry's new F-150!

I watched him hit 2 shots over 90 yards, right over the hood and hit a very small target area. Perfect shots.

I came up to him and said "What the $% #& are you doing Eric? That's your dad’s new truck! Are you crazy?"

I remember him looking up at me, look back down, hit another shot. Over the hood it flew and landed perfectly into a 3-foot target area. He looked back at me, with that classic grin and he said, "Well bud, that's how you get good!"

Larry never parked the truck or any vehicle near this practice area. It was clear Eric had moved the truck on purpose into position in front of the target area.

Keep in mind too, the whole target area is above your feet. not on the same level or even below you. It's not an easy shot...much less to do it repeatedly.

If Eric does not carry the shot right, that new hood is toast.

I did get him to stop and there was a small lecture by me (shocker), and we went to gather up the golf balls.

When I walked up to the truck, there were clear golf mark dimples on that new hood!

Larry never said a word about it......

Perfect practice + pressure = never shooting over 39 your senior year!

Below are a few highlights of those memories.

Check them out and I hope you enjoy them!

This year's EGM tournament was another great success.!

It was a special day for many reasons.

We returned after cancelling due to Covid in 2020. We had to cancel our original date due to weather. We were concerned about potential turnout and having it on a Sunday.

Eric was also taken away from us 10 years ago far too early. We wanted to have a great event to keep his memory alive and celebrate his life.

We are happy to report we were able to accomplish all our goals!

Thank you to The Boan Family, all our patrons who came out to support the event, our sponsors, and Eric's family.

Without all of your support and work, none of this would be possible.

The EGM not only gives the opportunity to celebrate Eric's life, but it also gives us the opportunity to spend time with family and friends.

For me, I know I will come home to see my Dad, family, and friends every year.

Time is not infinite, and as you get older, you realize how precious these moments are.

Please check out all our photos.

Please like and share!

THANKS!
