Last step, and the one everybody skips.

Before you air it all the way up, spin the wheel and watch the bead line where the tire meets the rim. It should stay even the whole way around.

A high spot means the bead didn't seat. Let some air out, work it back down, try again. Two minutes now beats a wobble every ride.

That's the install. Seven steps, one tire, done for the season.

Rotor back on, bolts snug and even, wheel into the dropouts.

Don't gun them down with the impact. Snug, then check each one. A rotor bolt that backs out is not a problem you want to discover under braking.

Valve stem goes straight through the hole. Straight. Not almost straight.

A stem sitting at an angle puts constant load on the base, and months later it tears right there — usually on a ride, usually miles from home.

Takes two seconds to check. Check it.

That last stubborn section? Palms, not levers.

More tubes get punctured on install than on the trail, and it's almost always a lever biting the tube on the final few inches.

Straight talk: Allscape is motorcycle-grade rubber, 2x thicker than the stock tire that came on your bike. It takes more muscle to seat. That's the tradeoff — and it's the same reason it lasts.

Put a little air in the tube before it goes anywhere near the tire.

Not much. Just enough to give it shape.

A flat tube folds on itself, ends up pinched under the bead, and you find out about it 200 yards down the road.

Thirty seconds of prevention.

Mag wheels have no spokes to hide behind. That's what makes this part harder than it looks.

Work the bead loose all the way around first. Every inch of it. Then reach for the levers.

Rush this step and you'll fight the tire for twenty minutes.
